Tesla September Registrations Rise Across Europe, Extending Recovery

Tesla’s new-car registrations increased across several European markets in September, adding to signs of a recovery for the U.S. electric vehicle maker after two years of declining sales in the region. Registrations rose 61.9% in France, 2.2% in Norway and 38.4% in Sweden compared with the same month last year, according to data from national automotive industry bodies.

The September gains follow a broader improvement in Tesla’s European performance. Data from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association showed Tesla registrations across the European Union, Britain and the European Free Trade Association increased 43.3% between January and August, compared with 38.8% growth for the wider battery-electric vehicle market.

Tesla’s recovery has been supported by easier year-on-year comparisons, higher fuel prices, government incentives and growing consumer interest in electric vehicles. Registration data from Britain and Germany, Europe’s two largest car markets, is expected later this week and will provide further information on Tesla’s performance across the region.
