Tesla Sales Rebound Across Northern Europe Amid Growing Chinese Competition

Tesla recorded a significant rise in new vehicle registrations across Northern Europe in October, marking a strong recovery despite increasing competition from Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers. Registrations surged 248% in Sweden, 131% in Norway and 34% in Denmark, according to market data. The recovery was supported by higher fuel prices, government incentives, growing demand for electric vehicles and favourable year-on-year comparisons.

Norway emerged as Tesla’s strongest market, with the company recording its best-ever October sales and securing the top position among car brands with a 9.8% market share. However, Chinese manufacturers also continued expanding their presence, accounting for a record 22.5% of new passenger car registrations in the country. In Denmark, Tesla faced tougher competition, with BYD, Leapmotor, Xpeng and MG all recording higher market shares.

Despite its strong performance in parts of Northern Europe, Tesla faces growing pressure from Chinese automakers offering increasingly competitive electric vehicles and wider product ranges. While Tesla remains one of Europe’s leading EV brands, its dependence on the Model 3 and Model Y could become a challenge as competition intensifies. The latest figures highlight the changing dynamics of Europe’s electric vehicle market.
