Three Migrants Die in Channel Crossing

Three migrants, including a 10-year-old child, died while attempting to cross the English Channel from France to Britain on an overcrowded inflatable dinghy, French authorities said. The boat was carrying 105 people when maritime police received a distress call.

The local prefecture said initial information indicated that the two women and the child were crushed aboard the dinghy. All other passengers were rescued. The boat had departed from Bleriot Plage near Calais, with authorities saying smugglers have increasingly used smaller “taxi boats” to transport migrants along the coast before crossing to Britain.

The deaths come as migration remains a major issue in France and Britain. British government data showed successful Channel crossings had fallen by more than 40% through late September compared with the same period in 2025. French authorities continue to deploy police along the northern coast to prevent migrant boats from launching.
