German teens held for alleged Christmas market attack plot

German authorities have apprehended two teenagers, aged 15 and 16, under suspicion of planning a militant Islamist attack on either a Christmas market or synagogue. The younger individual, a German-Afghan from Burscheid, was taken into custody after a search of his residence, while the 16-year-old, described as a Russian national, was detained in Wittstock/Dosse. The alleged seriousness of the plot prompted police intervention, as the boys had specified a time and place for the potential attack.

The targeted location initially mentioned in reports was Cologne, southwest of Burscheid, but subsequent information suggested it might be the nearby city of Leverkusen. The suspects had reportedly exchanged information on the Telegram messaging app, discussing the use of homemade incendiary devices or a van to carry out their plans. The arrests come amid concerns about a heightened risk of Islamist militant attacks in Germany, with authorities acting on a tip from abroad regarding a potential threat involving an individual from North Rhine-Westphalia.

The arrests unfolded as Thomas Haldenwang, the head of Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), warned of an increased risk of Islamist militant attacks. Haldenwang linked this elevated threat to the Israel-Hamas conflict and highlighted the potential for attacks on Jewish, Israeli individuals, and institutions in the West. He emphasized that various groups were spreading hatred, incitement, and antisemitism, with jihadist groups like al-Qaeda and Islamic State exploiting the situation to convey a victim narrative to Muslims in the West. The intelligence chief underscored the urgency of the situation, stating that an attack could happen in Germany at any time.

Iran blames west for the assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh

The Middle East country of Iran has blamed the western intelligence agencies and Israel for the assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.

Mr. Fakhrizadeh was a highly talented nuclear scientist. It was considered as the mastermind of the Iran nuclear program.

The scientist was attacked in Absard in the Iranian county of Damavand.

The west considered the scientist as a big threat. He was specifically named in a paper presented by Israel on the Iran nuclear program.

Iran has pledged to avenge the assassination of its scientist. A senior Iranian leader has said that his country would strike back like a thunder.

The Iran nuclear program is very controversial. Though Iran asserts that their nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, the west does not believe in the claim.

It is not the first time a top Iranian official has been assassinated at the behest of the western intelligence agency.

Few months ago, a senior Iranian military official was assassinated in a similar way.

Iran, it seems, is very angry about the killing. They have termed the killing a clear case of the violation of International laws by the west.

Israel has not yet responded about the allegations that have been levelled against the country in connection with the assassination.

It has been alleged that Israel has played a vital role in the killing.

Brazil Prez dilutes face mask law

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who faces criticism for his less serious attitude towards the Covid-19 outbreak, has diluted the law which requires people to wear masks in public places.

At the same time, he has vetoed their use in shops, churches and schools.

A law making the use of masks in public obligatory was originally passed during the coronavirus pandemic.

In a social media broadcast – as a justification for his latest action, Mr Bolsonaro has said that people could have been fined for not wearing a mask at home.

He has refused to acknowledge the gravity of Brazil’s Covid-19 outbreak, despite it having the world’s second-highest numbers of cases and deaths.

The virus has infected almost 1.5 million people and killed 61,884 there since late February, according to data collated by Johns Hopkins University.

The west has strongly criticised the Brazil President for his attitude towards the outbreak.

West closely observes developments in Hong Kong

The western powers, such as the US, UK, Germany and France, are closely observing the developments in the Asian city of Hong Kong.

For the last few months, the city has been struggling under the clutches of violence. Several people have lost their life due to violence in the city.

Recently, an elderly man, who was working as a cleaning staff, lost his life when he accidently trapped between two protesting groups aggressively throwing stones against each other. He was struck by a stone. He later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in a hospital.

Similarly, a young protester has lost his life last week when he had fallen from a building while resisting a police action.

Protesters say that as the police use fatal weapons against them they find it important to upgrade the materials they use for their defence.

What the streets of the city have been witnessing for the last few days has been nothing less than an aggressive street war between the police and the protesters.

When the police have used real bullets against the protesters, the latter has increased the effectiveness of their defence materials, like petrol bombs and stones, considerably.

With China not ready to pay heed to what its integral part has to say, it is up to the west to decide whether this city deserves peace or not.

The west earlier urged the Asian country of China to take a humanitarian stand on the issue concerning to the city of Hong Kong.

What has China repeatedly proved is the country is not ready to consider the Hong Kong issue through the prism shown to them by the west.

Actually, the west is the backbone of the Hong Kong economy. For that reason, the opinion of the west on the issue cannot be dismissed that easily.
