Eight-Year-Old Girl Seriously Injured in Wolf Attack at German Wildlife Park

An eight-year-old girl has been seriously injured in a wolf attack at Johannismühle Wildlife Park in Brandenburg, south of Berlin, Germany. According to police, the girl was inside an animal enclosure with a staff member and two other children when the incident occurred on Wednesday. She was airlifted to hospital by helicopter, while no other injuries were reported.

The exact circumstances of the attack remain under police investigation. German newspaper Bild reported that the girl sustained head injuries and that the incident may have occurred during a special visit before the park opened to the public. Johannismühle Wildlife Park houses grey and Arctic wolves, along with other animals, including brown bears and lynxes. The park has been temporarily closed and is scheduled to reopen on November 2.

The incident comes amid growing attention to animal attacks at wildlife parks and zoos across Europe. Earlier this week, a keeper died after being attacked by a leopard at a zoo in the Netherlands, while a man was killed by a tiger at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in the UK earlier this month. These incidents have renewed concerns about safety around wild animals in captive environments.
