Morocco suspect admits beheading Scandinavian hikers.
Europe Times: A jihadist cell leader has been suspected for the murder of Scandinavian hikers in the High Atlas mountains. He had admitted to a Moroccan court that he beheaded one of two hikers killed.
Two Scandinavian hikers named Maren Ueland (28) and Louisa Vesterager Jespersen (24) were found beheaded in an isolated area in December.
A 25-year-old street vendor, Abdessamad Ejjoud told the court, “I beheaded one of them… I regret it”. Reports said that he and 23 other alleged Islamists are on trial in Sale, near Rabat.
Abdessamad Ejjoud, Younes Ouaziyad (27), and Rachid Afatti (33) who were include in this group are accused of pledging allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) group and carrying out the killings. If found guilty, they could face the death penalty. All 24 defendants face different terrorism charges.
The bodies were found on 17 December in an isolated area near Mount Toubkal, Morocco’s highest peak, and a popular destination for hikers.
