The Mineo migrant reception centre in Sicily, which was the largest migrant reception centre, once in Europe has been officially closed down.

Matteo Salvini, the Interior Minister marked his presence at the closure of Mineo centre. He was reportedly considered as the biggest critic of this migrant centre. This migrant centre had accommodated more than 4000 people at a peak time.

On shutting down this migrant centre, Salvini said, “We’re saving quite a bit of money, we’re working to find new jobs for the centre’s ex-workers, but Sicily, Catania and Mineo cannot base their future on immigration”.

On Tuesday, he had live-streamed a walkabout tour of the empty migrant centre.

For the migrants, reaching Europe from North Africa, by crossing the Mediterranean, Italy is the major entry. The populist government of Italy has been trying to reduce the number of migrants, by banning of the migrant carrying ships at their ports.

The closing of this centre and arrival of Salvini has been protested by the former workers at the centre. The banners in their hands read, “Today we celebrate the funeral of Mineo”.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has came up with the Dragonfly mission to search for the presence of life in Saturn’s largest moon, Titan. The mission is estimated to cost $1 billion.

NASA said that the Dragonfly mission will be launched in 2026 and will land in 2034. The rotorcrafts which will be sent by the Dragonfly drone will be flying to various locations across the icy moon, and this will be viewed by the scientists. Nasa said that there will be 8 rotors in this spacecraft.

Titan, the largest moon of Saturn and the second-largest natural satellite in the Solar System is the only moon known to have a dense atmosphere. Titan is thought to be a prebiotic environment rich in complex organic chemistry, with a possible subsurface liquid ocean serving as a biotic environment.

Since Titan has lakes of methane, the scientists doubts the presence of methane based lives there. No presence of water has been detected in Titan.

A rustic sculpture of US first lady, Melania Trump was made in her home town in Slovenia. The figure was cut from the trunk of a living linden tree. This was built in a field beside the Sava River in the village of Rozno, near Slovenia.

The sculpture was commissioned by Berlin-based American artist Brad Downey. A local folk artist Ales Zupevc carved the figure with a chainsaw.

The figure cannot actually be said as a perfect sculpture. The face of the sculpture is rough-hewn and unrecognizable.

The figure shows the lady wearing a pale blue dress that Melania wore at Donald Trump’s inauguration as U.S. president.

Mr. Brad Downey, who commissioned the sculpture said that he wanted to have a dialogue with his country’s political situation, and highlight Melania Trump’s status as an immigrant married to a president sworn to reduce immigration.

Germany and Netherlands are on toxic caterpillar infestations, whose tiny toxic hairs that spreads through wind causes severe allergic reactions and skin irritations in humans and pets.

This year’s mild winter and warm spring provided a good environment for the caterpillars to increase enormously in number. Firefighters, with flame torches and special vacuum cleaners, are trying to destroy nests of the invasive species, across Germany.

Late in July, these caterpillars are expected to turn into pupae and then the threat will be decreased.

The return of the Oak processionary moth caterpillars made the restaurants, swimming pools and schools across Germany to close.

The Western Ruhr region of Germany is a densely populated area and is severely affected by these caterpillars.

These caterpillars, of about 2-3cm (about one inch) are moving towards and spreading on the trees at night time. Specialists said that there will be around 700,000 hairs in a mature caterpillar, which will be spreading severely through winds. These contains an irritating toxin that causes itchy, blistering rashes, which may last for weeks.

Reports said that six people in the western city of Munster had to undergo eye operations to remove the caterpillar hair that got stuck on their corneas.
