Volodymyr Zelensky, a comedian and TV show presenter have gained 73% of the Ukraine’s vote and elected as the Ukraine president. He had swept away the incumbent president, Petro Poroshenko, who conceded defeat. This result is a huge blow to Poroshenko and a rejection of Ukraine’s establishment.

Zelensky (41) is a comedian who plays the country’s president on a TV show, who does not have any political background. Zelensky declared his victory at a campaign party in a bar in Kiev, packed with hundreds of journalists.

To his supporters, Zelensky said, “I will never let you down”. “I’m not yet officially the president. But as a citizen of Ukraine I can say to all countries in the post-Soviet Union: Look at us. Anything is possible!”, he added.

This victory of Zelensky comes amid deep dissatisfaction among Ukrainians with their political establishment, and weariness with the war.

Rossiya 24, the Russian state news channel has introduced a robot presenter for some of its bulletins.

The robot News presenter ‘Alex’ has already excited the viewers. But, some viewers are complaining about his appearance and accusing him of peddling political propaganda.

‘Alex’ was developed by Promobot in the city of Perm. The silicon head of the robot is made similar to the face of the company’s co-founder Alexei Yuzhakov.

The present features of this robot can only move his facial features and neck. The developers are hoping that the final robot will have fully mobile limbs as well. According to the makers, the robot’s construction had started in 2017 and should be fully complete later this year.

The bloc’s chief executive said on Saturday that there is a still a concern that Britain may leave the European Union without a deal to smooth the way. He urged Britain to take advantage of a six-month delay to work out the details of its departure.

A week after EU leaders gave Britain six months more to exit the EU, Jean-Claude Juncker, the European Commission President had said this to the German newspaper FUNKE Mediengruppe.

Juncker mentioning the long-term negative impact on Europe’s economy said, “Nobody knows how Brexit will end. This is creating great uncertainty. There is still a fear that there will be a hard Brexit without any withdrawal treaty arrangements”.

The EU extension helps in giving a clarity on when, how or even if Brexit will happen. But, the time should be wisely used by Britain, said Juncker.

After the fire at Notre-Dame Cathedral, officials have raised a proposal to temporarily build up a wooden cathedral near Notre-Dame’s famed towers.

The rector of the Paris landmark, Monsignor Patrick Chauvet, suggested that the structure would serve as a home for worshippers and tourists alike.

The 850-year-old Gothic cathedral was already undergoing renovation works at the time of the fire break-out.

Notre-Dame Cathedral has been closed after a fire tore through its roof and destroyed its spire.

Emmanuel Macron, the French President have pledged that the Cathedral would be reopened within 5 years.

A couple have been strangely rescued from a marsh in northern Australia. The rescue team could find them using the writing “help” in the mud to attract attention. The couple got stuck in a crocodile-ridden part of Australia’s remote northern part.

Colen Nulgit and his partner Shantelle Johnson were having a fishing trip in Keep River National Park, Northern Territory when their car became stuck down in mud.

Nulgit said to the media, “We were stuck on the marshland and we were right next to saltwater”. Nulgit said that they had seen crocodile tracks in the area and, as the waters rose, they became afraid of being swept away by a large tide, or being attacked by crocodiles or dingos. “These crocodiles that we get here, they’re not afraid of humans, they’re not afraid of anything”, said Nulgit.

A search team had rescued them after a long and miserable fight of about 26 hours.

Borce Ristevski (55) is sentenced to jail for nine years for killing his wife Karen Ristevski (27). The murder occurred at the couple’s home in Melbourne’s north-west, on the morning of June 29, 2016.

Ristevski never explained how he killed his wife despite pleading guilty to manslaughter last month. It has been reported that, after killing his wife, Ristevski put her body in the boot of his car and went to Mount Macedon. He hid the body in a nature reserve under logs, branches and foliage.

Ristevski said to the police that he had an argument with his wife about money and later on she went for a walk on the day she went missing. The Police identified Borce Ristevski as a suspect early on.

At the time of sentencing, Justice Christopher Beale condemned Ristevski for playing “the part of the innocent grieving widower”. He told to the Supreme Court of Victoria, “The pretence, the rank deceit only ended a few weeks ago when you pleaded guilty to manslaughter”.

A bus carrying German tourists have fallen off from a road and overturned on the Portuguese island of Madeira. It is been reported that at least 29 people have died in the accident. The bus was carrying 55 passengers, the driver and the tourist guide as per reports. Almost 28 have been injured.

The accident happened at 18:30 (17:30 GMT). Portuguese news agency Lusa reported that the accident happened when the driver lost control over the bus and plunged off a road. Reports said that almost 19 ambulances came after the accident. Portuguese media images showed a group of fire fighters gathered around a collapsed white bus.

Filipe Sousa, the mayor of Caniço said to SIC TV, “I have no words to describe what happened. I cannot face the suffering of these people”. 17 women and 11 men were included in the victims, added Sousa.

The Agency said that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Portuguese President is flying to the island to visit the accident zone.

Firefighters extinguishes the firing ruins of Notre-Dame with water on Tuesday. A raging inferno swept through the gothic cathedral in the heart of Paris, a morning before this incident.

Hundreds of firemen had frighted the blaze. The fire consumed the roof and collapsed the eight-centuries-old cathedral’s spire for more than eight hours before bringing it under control, saving its bell towers and outer walls.

A pair of bell towers survived, along with the cathedral’s elaborate stonework facade. The officials said that invaluable artifacts were saved, including the Crown of Thorns, believed to be a relic of the passion of Christ.

Franck Riester, the Culture Minister  had told the media, ” It’s a symbol of our country that risked being destroyed”.

The former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic’s widow Mira Markovic has died at her age of 76, in Russia.

Milutin Mrkonjic, a family friend of Mira had confirmed her death to the media, said bbc.

During the collapse of Yugoslavia in the 1990s, Ms Markovic was a significant political figure.

Before the arrest of Slobodan Milosevic, Mira was her husband’s most trusted and influential advisers.

Slobodan Milosevic died being held at the UN war crimes tribunal in the Netherlands. He was accused for genocide and other war crimes for his key role in the 1990s wars that tore the Balkans apart.

In the Sunday’s election, Finland is tipped to turn left. The Social Democrats were leading in poll. Reports said that The Social Democratic party’s Antti Rinne could be next prime minister.

It have been two decades that Finland is having a leftist prime minister in parliamentary elections.

A survey conducted showed that the Social Democrats could win the elections with 19 percent of the vote, giving their leader, Antti Rinne, the first chance for forming a government. 

With a 16.3 percent support, the Finns are moving closer with second position, after scoring rapid gains since the start of this year when a series of cases of sexual abuse of minors by foreign men emerged.
