Baby dolphin death: Bulgarian dolphinarium being criticised

A baby dolphin has died at a dolphinarium in the city of Varna in Bulgaria during a live performance at the aquatic zoo earlier this month, reports BTV Novinite.

The dolphinarium is being immensely over this issue as five baby dolphins and a sea lion have died here in the past five years.

Regarding the incident, Bisser Lyubenov said, “There was a disturbance, the dolphins stopped playing and performing tricks”. After the dismay, the show has been cut short and the visitors were asked to leave.

The dolphinarium also allowed the body of the baby to be seen by visitors in the park’s the cafe, according to another distressing account.

The death of this baby dolphin during the live show and in front of children, has been denied by the dolphinarium authorities.

A biologist named Tsvetan Stanev has been reportedly said that after the birth of the baby dolphin, the baby and its mother had been separated from the other dolphins.

Stanev said, “You can’t have a mother leaving its child in order to take part in the show. This can happen about six months after the birth. A baby dolphin taking part in performances nine days after it was born – this has never happened in this dolphinarium!”
