Ronaldo Named in Jorge Jesus’ First Portugal Squad

Cristiano Ronaldo has been included in new Portugal coach Jorge Jesus’ first squad, ending speculation that the 41-year-old forward could retire from international football. Ronaldo had not confirmed whether he would continue playing for Portugal after their World Cup round-of-16 defeat by Spain in July.

The Al-Nassr forward is part of a 25-man squad selected for Portugal’s four Nations League matches between September 24 and October 4. Jesus replaced Roberto Martinez following Portugal’s World Cup exit and previously worked with Ronaldo at Al-Nassr, where they helped the club win the Saudi Pro League last season.

Ronaldo, who has scored 146 goals in 233 appearances for Portugal, had said the 2026 World Cup would be his last. He will turn 42 before next summer’s Nations League finals. Portugal will face Wales, Norway and Denmark during the upcoming Nations League fixtures.
