Thomas Markle Arrested Over Alleged Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Images
Thomas Markle, the estranged father of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, was arrested in Florida on November 6 on charges of possessing child sexual abuse material. The 82-year-old was taken into custody by federal agents following an FBI investigation into photographs and other material allegedly discovered in two rented storage units in the Los Angeles area. FBI Director Kash Patel said the investigation uncovered images allegedly showing Markle with nude underage girls. If convicted, Markle could face up to 20 years in prison.
According to an FBI affidavit filed in a federal court in Los Angeles, investigators seized approximately 78 items, including photographic slides, 35mm film negatives and books containing child sexual abuse images. At least two film frames reportedly showed a man identified by a witness as Markle posing with a nude pre-pubescent girl. The storage units had reportedly been rented by Markle since 2008. Following his initial court appearance in Tampa, Florida, a judge ordered his release pending trial under home detention and electronic monitoring. No plea was entered, and his legal representation was not immediately known.
The FBI launched its investigation in October after receiving information from a witness who allegedly discovered suspected abuse material among Markle’s belongings in the Philippines. Authorities there had also begun investigating allegations against him last month. Markle previously denied the accusations, describing them as false claims. Meghan Markle has said she was deeply distressed by the allegations, while Buckingham Palace and her spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
