Spain’s Transport Minister Announces Resignation After Deadly Train Crashes
Spain’s Transport Minister Oscar Puente has announced that he will resign following two deadly train accidents in less than a year. Speaking before lawmakers on Tuesday, Puente said he could no longer remain in office after incidents of such severity. His decision follows the latest train crash on October 28, which claimed 69 lives.
Puente explained that he had continued in his position after the accident to manage its aftermath and introduce measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future. However, he did not specify when he would officially step down.
The announcement comes amid growing attention on railway safety in Spain following the two major accidents. Puente’s resignation marks a significant development as authorities continue addressing the consequences of the latest crash and considering measures to improve transport safety.
