Poland Calls for Swift Black Sea Ceasefire to Resume Grain Shipments
Poland’s Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has called for an immediate ceasefire in the Black Sea to ensure the safe passage of grain shipments from Ukraine and Russia. Speaking at the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta on Friday, October 30, Sikorski stressed the urgency of restoring grain transportation, highlighting its importance for countries in the Global South that depend on these supplies.
Sikorski also insisted that Ukraine must be included in any negotiations aimed at ending Russia’s invasion, which has entered its fifth year. He further stated that Russia should not be allowed to resume energy exports to Europe until the war reaches a fair conclusion. He also emphasised that European countries must have a role in discussions surrounding the conflict and its resolution.
Meanwhile, Sikorski welcomed the United States’ proposal to make Poland a full member of the G20, alongside major European economies such as Germany and France. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio supported the proposal, citing Poland’s economic growth and increasing global influence. However, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov criticised the move, arguing that Poland’s invitation went against the G20’s consensus-based diplomatic principles.
