Alexia Putellas Wins Third Ballon d’Or Feminin

Spain midfielder Alexia Putellas has won the Ballon d’Or Feminin for a record-equalling third time, extending Spain’s dominance of the award to six consecutive years. The 32-year-old captained Barcelona to a quadruple-winning season in 2025-26 before joining Women’s Super League club London City Lionesses in July. She now shares the record of three titles with her former Barcelona teammate Aitana Bonmati.

Putellas earned the award after an outstanding season, scoring 21 goals and providing 13 assists across all competitions. She played a crucial role in Barcelona’s Champions League triumph, scoring seven goals in the competition and helping the club secure its fourth European title in six seasons. Barcelona striker Ewa Pajor finished second in the voting, followed by Manchester City forward Khadija Shaw.

Her latest achievement marks a remarkable comeback after a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury in 2022 threatened to derail her career. During 14 years at Barcelona, she won 38 trophies, including 10 league titles and four European Cups. Now playing for London City Lionesses, Putellas continues to demonstrate her influence on women’s football, recording three goals and one assist in her first seven WSL appearances.
