Cohere Moves to Acquire AI Cybersecurity Startup AISLE

Canadian artificial intelligence company Cohere has signed a letter of intent to acquire AISLE, a San Francisco-based cybersecurity startup that uses AI to identify software vulnerabilities. The proposed acquisition would expand Cohere’s capabilities in cybersecurity and threat detection, particularly for enterprise and public sector clients.

The deal would strengthen Cohere’s broader business expansion following its planned merger with Germany’s Aleph Alpha, a combination reportedly valued at around $20 billion. AISLE’s engineering hub in Prague would also help expand Cohere’s presence in Europe and support the development of European AI capabilities. The combined business aims to offer security solutions that can be deployed privately on customers’ own systems.

Founded in 2025 by former Avast CEO Ondrej Vlcek and co-founders with experience at Google DeepMind and Anthropic, AISLE reported identifying more than 500 previously unknown software bugs in its first year. These included 12 vulnerabilities in OpenSSL, a widely used technology that encrypts internet traffic for banks, governments and messaging applications. The vulnerabilities were fixed after discovery. Financial details of the proposed acquisition have not been disclosed.
