Singapore Airlines Announces $1.6 Billion Luxury Cabin Upgrade
Singapore Airlines has announced an investment of more than S$2 billion ($1.6 billion) to upgrade its long-haul aircraft cabins, aiming to strengthen its position in the premium travel market. The airline unveiled redesigned cabins across all four travel classes, with the new seats expected to be introduced from the second half of 2027. The upgrade marks the biggest cabin overhaul in the company’s history.
The new first-class suites will feature large double beds, described by the airline as the biggest in commercial aviation. Business-class passengers will benefit from fully flat beds and sliding privacy doors for the first time on Singapore Airlines. The programme will cover 72 aircraft, including Airbus A350-900s and Boeing 777-9 jets, with a major share of the investment directed towards premium cabins.
The move comes as international competitors such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, British Airways and Air France continue investing in luxury travel experiences. However, delays in aircraft and seat certification have affected the rollout of new cabin products across the industry. Singapore Airlines said the investment would be funded through its strong cash reserves, which stood at S$9.1 billion at the end of June.
