Mexico is receiving a German Shepherd puppy from Turkey as a token of gratitude for Mexico’s search and rescue dogs’ help during February’s earthquake in Turkey. The puppy is intended to continue the legacy of Proteo, a Mexican rescue dog who passed away during the rescue operations.

The Mexican Ministry of Defense has asked people to vote on one of three names for the puppy: Proteo II, Arkadas, or Yardim. Mexico has specialized civilian and military teams with canine units that search for survivors during natural disasters.

These dogs gained popularity after saving several lives during the 2017 earthquake in central Mexico. When Turkey and Syria were struck by a massive earthquake in February, Mexico quickly deployed rescue teams with search dogs to assist in finding survivors.

During the rescue mission in Turkey, Proteo, a nine-year-old German Shepherd, located a man and a woman under the rubble before he died from exhaustion, according to his trainer. Proteo’s remains were returned to Mexico, where he was honoured in a ceremony before being buried.

Mexico’s Ministry of Defense, on its Facebook page, expressed gratitude for the puppy donated by Turkey, and hoped it would continue Proteo’s legacy in their search and rescue missions.

An investigation is on. At this moment, it remains unclear whether the police have arrested anyone in connection with the brutal murder.

Mexico City is known for its criminal atmosphere. It is not a surprise that a murder of this nature has happened in this city.

The development proves that the city has extremely failed to offer a safe environment for people to live and do business in the city.

It is expected to damage the reputation of the city severely. It may dissuade French people from investing in this city.

The killed businessman is a dual citizen, who holds both Mexican and French citizenship.

It is said that the wine bottles which has been stolen from the murdered businessmen was worth almost $50,000.

It is high time to find a solution to the rise in crimes in Mexico. What makes the city a criminal den is the easy availability of drugs. To make the city free of crimes, its drug issue is to be addressed first.

The Spanish government has strongly criticised the formed removal of Bolivian supremo Evo Morales by his country’s military.

The removal has come amidst growing protest in Bolivia against the alleged irregularity committed by Mr. Morales during the recent presidential election.

It was a regional organisation which first exposed the irregularity. Later, similar stand was taken by many, including the US.

Notably, the majority of those who stand against the Bolivian president are from the political right. And, the majority of those who stand with the president are from the political left; importantly, Spain is at present in the political left platform.

Not only Spain but also several others like Venezuela and Mexico has come out publically in favour of the Bolivian president.

Anyway, it is from Russia the most unexpected support has come.

The Russian government, even though is a political right country, has taken a different stand than that of its fellow rightist countries. It has strongly criticised the action of the Bolivian military.

Mr. Morales has accepted the asylum offer extended by the Mexican government. He has called his ouster a coup. He has hinted about his return in his statement.

In his statement, he said that it was very painful for him to fly away from his country. He added that he would return with more energy and power in the near future itself.

The alleged coup has put the country in chaos. The supporters of Mr. Morales have gathered in the city centres in large numbers. In many places, they have openly clashed with the police. The Bolivian military, with an intention to bring stability, has sent their members to support the police.

Notably, Jeanine Anez, the deputy leader of the Senate, is likely to take charge as the interim president. She has announced her intention recently. Anyway, it needs the assent of the senate. It is not clear whether she may be able to get the support of the senate dominated by the supporters of Mr. Morales.

Whoever becomes the interim president gets at least 90 days to conduct election.
