Amid concerns over potential Islamic State (IS) threats to European sporting events, including a recent online warning, French authorities have intensified security measures in Paris. This move coincides with worries about the safety of upcoming events such as the Champions League quarter-final match and the impending Olympic Games.

While Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin acknowledged the elevated threat level, he also emphasized France’s experience in countering extremist activities, citing recent foiled attacks. Despite the heightened security, some fans remain undeterred, expressing a determination not to let fear dictate their lives.

Across Europe, governments are grappling with the growing threat posed by IS-K, particularly in light of the upcoming European Football Championship. Germany, in particular, has ramped up security measures, including border checks, amidst concerns over internal security.

Balancing security concerns with maintaining a sense of normalcy presents a challenge for France, especially with the Olympics fast approaching. While some voices caution against overreacting to IS threats, others stress the importance of not yielding to fear and maintaining public confidence.

France’s extensive experience with Islamist incidents has led to the deployment of significant security forces, including Operation Sentinelle and military personnel. Despite assurances from security officials, concerns persist, compounded by tensions with Russia and its alleged efforts to undermine French credibility through cyber campaigns.

President Macron has warned of Russia’s potential to disrupt the Olympics through various means, including cyber operations aimed at spreading misinformation. The French government has publicly denounced attempts to manipulate public opinion, attributing such actions to Kremlin-backed efforts to sow discord.

Italian police have busted a huge drug trafficking network run for a terrorist group, Islamic State.

Around 14 tonnes of amphetamines have been seized by the police.

As per a latest report, about 84 million counterfeit Captagon pills worth an estimated €1bn were found in containers at the port of Salerno.

According to the report, they were hidden inside large drums of paper and gear wheels.

An investigation is on. It remains unclear whether an local criminal gang has involvement in the criminal act or whether any gang has links with the terrorist organisation.

Captagon is a brand name for the synthetic stimulant fenethylline. It was originally used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and narcolepsy, but many countries banned it during the 1980s because of its addictive properties.

It is a well known fact that the IS uses the drug trafficking racket to fund their criminal activities across the world.

It is high time to launch a global operation against the drug trafficking business run by the terrorist organisation.

A Finnish minister, Katri Kulmuni, who received serious criticism for her controversial comment regarding the matter of the repatriation of women and children from the Kurdish-led camp for the foreign IS sympathisers in Syria, has withdrawn her comment from the social media handle she maintains in the popular social media platform of Instagram.

She, earlier, through her handle, asked her followers to leave their opinion on whether only children should be repatriated or both mother and children should be repatriated.

At least more than three dozens of women and children in the camp, named al-Hol, are from Finland.

The country’s politicians are divided over whether women live in the camp should be repatriated or not, though there are no dispute among them on the view that children in the camp are the victims of the war against the ISIS and they should be repatriated at the earliest.

The politicians of Finland are worried about the potential damage that can be made to the nation if the radicalised women are simply repatriated without the assistance of a proper deradicalisation process.

The people in the camp live in a very poor condition. They are highly vulnerable to diseases, hunger and many related issues, as they live with limited resources.

Many western countries have already repatriated their citizens from the camp.
