The European country of Netherlands has decided to reimpose certain Covid-19 restrictions, in order to address the threat posed by the fresh rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in that part of the world.

The newly imposed restrictions mean many residents in the Netherlands will, for the first time, be forced to wear a face mask in shops.

It is believed that the latest measures will help the country to overcome a second coronavirus wave.

The Netherlands is one of the few countries in the continent of Europe which is not a fan of stricter restrictions.

At present, the daily infection average rate stands at 3,000 cases per day.

The total population of the country is around 17 million. It indicates that the status is highly problematic and depressing.

While speaking to media personals, Netherlands Health Minister Hugo de Jong said they were doing their best but the virus was doing better.

In a press conference, Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte explained that the situation in the country’s three largest cities – Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague – had become serious and required urgent action.

A battle has broken out between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Armenia and Azerbaijan are the two former Soviet Socialist Republic countries.

The dispute between these two countries emerged post the disintegration of Soviet Union.

During the 1990s, the region witnessed a severe conflict. Tens of thousands of people lost life due to the conflict.

The latest protest was also violent. As many as 23 people have lost their life due to the conflict.

The disputed region is at present under the control of Armenia – certain ethnic groups based in the country.

Azerbaijan does not recognise this. The country considers this region as an integral part of this territory.

The International community also recognises the ownership of Azerbaijan over the region.  

Martial law has been declared amid the violence in some parts of Azerbaijan, as well as in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.

Once again, an act of terror has occurred in connection with satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo – which came to spotlight after several journalists had been killed during a terror attack in the year 2015.

In the latest attack, at least two people has been injured. The latest has taken place just outside the office.

As many as seven people have been booked in connection with an attack in Paris.

The attack has been carried out with a meat cleaver.

Shockingly, the main suspect of the attack is a eighteen year old man from Pakistan.

He has been taken into custody by the Paris police from the crime scene itself.

It is alleged that the police have miscalculated the security threat emerged as part of a trial that opened up recently in connection with the 2015 attack.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said it was an act of Islamist terrorism.

The building where the attack take place is no longer occupied by Charlie Hebdo, through it had been the office of the magazine since the year 2015 when a terrorist ravaged the office.

It is at present occupied by a production company.

The latest development is seen seriously by the French government. It is expected that it will prompt the country to increase its security installations in several key locations.

The unexpected resignation of a high-ranking Vatican official, Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Becciu, has exposed the flaws in the Vatican administrative structure.

The resigned Cardinal alleged that he was told to file his resignation by Pope Francis

As per a report, the ousted Cardinal was earlier placed under suspension for misusing Church money.

The allegation against the Cardinal was that he illegally handed Church money to his brothers.

The ousted Cardinal has denounced all allegations levelled against him.

A little-known fact is that Cardinal Becciu was a close aide to the Pope.

Once the said Cardinal was an important officer in the Vatican’s Secretariat of State.

It was a corruption allegation linked to a controversial deal to invest in a luxury London building which damaged the image of this priest.

The issue placed the priest under the spotlight of a financial investigation.

It is the first time in the recent history that a senior member of the Vatican administration has been removed from the corridor of power.

Sniffer dogs are a friend of security forces. Normally, they are used to detect bombs. They are a common sight in airports.

Do you know they can be used for many other tasks too. In Finland, these dogs are even used to detect Covid-19 patients.

As part of a trial, these dogs have already been deployed in an airport in Finland, named Helsinki-Vantaa airport.

As per a study, these dogs can detect the presence of the virus in human at least five days before the appearance of any symptom.

The trial is being conducted under the guidance of the University of Helsinki. It is being monitored by a term of experts from the university.

The trial is a part of the research program launched by the university.

If the result turns positive, many other airports in the region may adopt this method.

Compared to other methods for detecting Covid-19 patients, this one is far less complicated, through the credibility of the method is still largely doubtful.

Anyway, it is important to carry out more researches in this area. Actually, it may not be easy for many to digest this matter in this stage.

The ongoing protest in Belarus has turned violent, as the country has organised a secret function to appoint tainted leader Alexander Lukashenko as the President of the country.

The country is in the state of unrest since the election which awarded a landslide victory to Mr. Lukashenko.

The opposition alleged that the election was not conducted in a free and fair manner. The opinion was backed by the European Union countries and the United States.

In the aftermath of the election, the Belarus dictator allegedly launched a serious crackdown in the country.

Violence was unleashed against protesters. Several International human rights organisations, including Amnesty International, appealed for the intervention of the International community.

Amnesty International claimed that those protesters who were arrested were subjected to severe mental and physical torture and some of them were event threatened with rape.

At present, Russia is the only country which supports Belarus. It even offered to send police forces to support the Belarus dictator.

Belarus is, with out any doubt, a satellite state of Russia.   

The possibility is high for this crisis to transform as a European crisis. It is pertinent not to allow such a transformation.

Alexei Navalny, the prime critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has been discharged from the hospital.

He has posted a photo of him through his social media handle.

He was allegedly poisoned while he was travelling to the capital of Russia, Moscow.

He was initially treated in a hospital based in Russia. The Russian hospital denied that the critic was poisoned.

He was later shifted to a hospital in Germany. The hospital in Germany was the first medical authority which recognized that the critic was poisoned.

At this moment, it remains unclear when Mr. Navalny will return to Russia.

Earlier, Russia denied that the critic was poisoned at the behest of Russian President Putin.

At the same time, the supporters of Mr. Navalny strongly alleged that he was positioned at the behest of the Russian President.

A psychiatrist, who has visited WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange – who is languishing in a prison located in the United Kingdom, has raised alarm about the deteriorating mental condition of the journalist – who is wanted in the United States for a serious crime.

A petition seeking the extradition of the journalist is pending in a court based in the United Kingdom.

The finding of the psychiatrist has the potential to influence the outcome of the UK court’s verdict on the extradition petition filed by the US.

As per a statement released by the psychiatrist, Mr. Assange’s mental condition is too worse that he hears imaginary voices.

Mr. Assange was an extremely popular journalist. He was known for his uncompromising attitude.

He was very vocal against the US. He was the one who unearthed several unpleasant stories regarding the US forces’ activities in the war-embattled regions in the Middle East.

Many see Mr. Assange as a victim of the anti-democratic attitude of the United States of America.

The journalist community has already expressed their support to the embattled journalist.

Many renowned personalities have come forward to extend their support to the journalist – who was pushed behind iron bars for showing justice to his job.

Italy has cleared a referendum seeking to reduce the strength of the parliament by a third.

As many as 70 per cent of the electorate of the country has voted in favour of the referendum.

Once the new regulation comes to effect,  the strength of the parliament will be reduced to at least 400.

The present strength of the parliament is not less than 634.

The referendum has the support of the Five Star Movement, which is an important member of the political coalition which rules the country.

The new development has come shortly after the regional election which saw the decline of the strength of the ruling rightist political parties.

Italy has lost many lives owing to the present disease outbreak. It is one of the worst affected countries in the continent of Europe.

At present, it is unclear whether the present development has any serious political implication.

Anyway, the development may help to reduce the chance of the spread of the disease among the lawmakers.

The same policy is expected to be implemented in the Senate.

If this development is proved helpful, many countries in this part of the world is expected to copy that policy.

As per a set of documents leaked to medias, Arkady Rotenberg, one of the closest friends of Russian President Vladimir Putin, have misused Barclays Bank in London to launder money.

The documents have also proved that the bank has been misused to dodge sanctions imposed over the person by certain Western countries affiliated to the European Union.

Arkady Rotenberg is a billionaire. he is known to Mr. Putin since childhood.

It is believed that financial restrictions imposed over Mr. Rotenberg has promoted him to utilise this fraudulent method.

The development means Western banks have to find a convincing explanation on why they have helped the man to use the channel to move money.

Meanwhile, the bank has justified its position on the ground that they have not committed any illegality.

As per the opinion of the bank, the transaction has been done in accordance with the regulations prescribed.

The Russian government has not yet commented on this issue yet. Russia is not likely to respond on this matter any time soon.
