Dublin riot sees clashes with police after five hurt in stabbings

The unrest centered on several streets in Dublin city center, including O’Connell Street, where vehicles were set on fire, including at least one police car, a tram, and a bus. Additionally, a shop on O’Connell Street was looted, and the windows of other stores were smashed.

Trinity College, located nearby, went into lockdown, closing all gates to its campus due to the disturbances. Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar announced the deployment of extra police resources in response to the situation, expressing shock at the knife attack and cautioning against misinformation circulating on social media.

Residents affected by this abhorrent act expressed their distress, one individual shared with BFMTV, “I am crying, because I am once again seeing the hate that we received when I was a child. I can’t understand it.”

In a statement, the mayoralty of the 14th arrondissement emphasized that the incidents “recall the events of the 1930s… which led to the extermination of millions of Jews.” Deputy to Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, Emmanuel Grégoire, pledged to remove the stars and initiate a comprehensive investigation, affirming that “antisemitism continues to kill. In response to these findings, the ombudsman proposed the establishment of a state-funded compensation program for victims of abuse. The investigation was initiated following an earlier inquiry by the El Pais newspaper in 2018, which had already cataloged over 1,000 alleged cases of abuse. Although the Church partially cooperated with the commission, Mr. Gabilondo noted their lack of active engagement and the resistance of certain bishops in collaborating with the inquiry.

Venice tourist bus plunges from bridge, killing 21
