UK loses measles-free status

Owing to the unexpected rise in the number of infections, the European country of the United Kingdom has lost its measles-free status.

An official work in an International health agency has warned of the possible emergence of a crisis due to the rise in the number of cases.

He has cited the delay in the administration of vaccine to the rise in the number of cases of measles.

As per a statement made by the UNICEF, over 117 million children in 37 countries may not get immunised on time due to the coronavirus crisis.

Measles is a serious disease. Its symptoms are cough, rashes and fever. The disease can be prevented by the administration of two doses of the Mumps, Measles and Rubella vaccine, popularly known as the MMR vaccine.

The vaccine is free to children in the European country of the UK and in many other countries around the world.

It is high time for governments to think serious about the matter of the rise in the number of cases of measles – the disease because of which the world suffered a lot once.

The return of that disease is not acceptable and should be prevented at any cost for the good of the people of the world.

Raymond Kurzweil is a renowned inventor and futurist. He has written several books on Artificial Intelligence, transhumanism and futurism.

He is popular for his interesting predictions.

In the year 1999, his second book was published: The Age of Spiritual Machines. The final part of this book is completely devoted to his predictions.

As per his prediction, in the near future, we will have millions of blood-cell sized devices, nanobots, inside our bodies to fight against diseases.

He believes that these nano particles may take human near to the unbelievable state of immortality.

The aforesaid is not the only prediction he has made in his life, but the said is one of the most important predictions he has made so far.

Not all his predictions have worked. Some of them have miserably failed. His prediction that by the year 2009 the majority of text would be created using speech recognition has not proved real.

Some critics have termed the predictions made by the futurist as irrelevant. They have found his predictions a wage mixture of fiction and scientific facts.

Many still consider him as a genius. Since the year 2002, he has been working in Google. He is a senior officer in the tech company.

Europe battles domestic violence

The sudden rise in the number of the cases of domestic violence has disturbed most European countries – which are on a battle to contain a disastrous virus – Covid-19.

In the past few days, several cases of domestic violence have been reported across the continent of Europe.

Some cases are even horrific. Even some deaths have happened in the recent past in the continent due to this issue.

This rise in the number of the cases of domestic violence is a matter of great concern. It exposes the helpless scenario of surviving between devil and sea which several women across the continent experience at this moment.

Some local authorities have opened up platforms to help the vulnerable. Still, what has been done so far are not enough.

What the statistics indicates is an urgent need for the intervention of governments in this matter.

It is high time to act to make sure the efforts to contain a virus do not give a free hand to some to hurt those who are trapped in their homes with them.

What this issue unveils is the lack of maturity of governments to face the social impact of the measures they have initiated to overcome the virus issue.

The BBC has recently made a touching story to expose how miserable the life of migrants in the continent of Europe is.

Migrants, away from their homelands, deserve the support and care of every one – especially from the people of the country where they have reached in search of a peaceful future.

It is easy to forget them. It needs a courageous heart to look them through a humanitarian prism.

Riot broke out in Siberian prison

A riot has broken out in a prison located in the Siberian region of Russia. The prison has been badly damaged due to the riot, as a severe fire has broken out in the prison.

As per the statement released by the authorities, some inmates at the high-security region in the prison attacked a guard who had tried to help a prisoner bleeding from a self-inflicted wound.

Meanwhile, some activists have provided another version. As per their statements, several prisoners have slashed their own arms in protest against the inhuman behaviour of certain guards.

According to the statements of the activists, the lack of scrutiny gives certain guards in the prison a free hand to do what they want in the prison.

Anyway, the government has not responded to the allegations made by the activists. As per its latest statement, the situation is at present under control and an investigation is on.

Russian jails are under lockdown for last few days to prevent the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.

At this moment, it remains unclear whether the riot outbreak has any connection with the virus outbreak.

It seems that the Russian government is very keen to solve this issue at the earliest. It has already interrupted several human rights websites which have reported the incident.

German court overturns regional government’s travel ban

The Greifswald Higher Court situated in the eastern part of Germany has found the regional government’s travel ban as disproportionate in curbing people’s local freedom.

The court has ordered that locals in that region can go to the popular Baltic coast this Easter weekend.

The ruling means despite the coronavirus lockdown the locals in this part of Germany can spent this Eater weekend on beaches.

Notably, the Germans from other regions lacks this freedom.

Interestingly, the Mecklenburg-West Pomerania government has not challenged the decision made by the top court of the region.

It is yet to be seen whether other less affected regions will follow the step taken by this state in this matter in the future.

Anyway, the locals of the region have been advised to stay 2m apart to reduce the threat of the spread of the virus.

Lockdowns are in force across Germany, but the restrictions vary from state to state. The toughest measures have been imposed in Bavaria and the Saarland.

The number of infections in Germany is over 1,18,000 cases and the total death toll is more than 2,600.

Fortunately, the rate is far lower than Italy, Spain and the UK.

North-South divide deepens in Europe; FMs’ talk fails to bear any fruit

A talk convened for European Union finance ministers on how to help those European countries badly affected by the coronavirus epidemic – especially those in the southern region of the continent – have collapsed in the last moment.

As per a latest statement made by the European Central Bank, the European Union may need up to €1.5tn to tackle the crisis.

The talk has stalled as a severe dispute has emerged between the Southern European country of Italy and the Northern European country of the Netherlands – which is comparatively less affected by the epidemic – over how to apply the recovery fund.

As per a latest report, the negotiation process is likely to resume in few hours, as the EU is keen to find a solution to the issue as early as possible.

Earlier, a senior European minister expressed his doubt about the longevity of the economic union. He warned of serious consequences.

The union has not yet responded to any criticism. It has recently reaffirmed its commitment towards its member countries, saying that it would come up with the solution to the present crisis soon.

Whether this crisis will lead to the collapse of the decades-old union is yet to be seen.
