A special court set up in the Netherlands to handle the murder case of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri is expected to announce its verdict on the case in the near future.

Originally, there were five accused in the case. One of them, who was a senior commander in Hezbollah, died in the year 2016.

The rest of them has been tried in absentia.

Lawyer who have appeared for the accused have defended their clients, saying that the case was based purely on circumstantial evidence and there was nothing to prove the involvement of their clients in the case beyond the scope of doubt.

The whereabouts of the accused have not yet been released by the court. At present, only their names have been publicised.

The incident actually took place in the year 2005. It has taken almost fifteen years for the court to wind-up its procedure.

The son of the deceased ex-PM, who was also an ex-PM, is expected to attend the court on the day it announces its verdict over the case.

The timing of this verdict is important. The murder of Mr. Hariri was the one which changed the course of the verdict. Now, at the time the Lebanese government is facing its biggest crisis triggered by a surprise bomb blast in the capital city, the verdict may prove as an additional burden over the already embattled government.

Countries stand in the opposition camp of the one which is led by Russia in the western world has stiffened its stand against Belarus – which has been witnessing a powerful anti-government protest for last few days.

Belarus is a country remain in the camp led by Russia. Notably, it relies heavily of its energy requirement.

Recently, Sweden advised the European Union dominated by Germany and France, to impose a sanction against Belarus.

Subsequently, several western powers close to the EU-led camp have expressed similar views.

A section of people in Belarus is unhappy over the way in which Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko was re-elected as the head of the country.

Mr. Lukashenko has been ruling the country since the year 1994. The section alleges that the election was carried out in an unfair manner.

Recently, when the president has visited a factory, the workers of that factory has shouted slogans against him.

In the recent days, the ongoing protest has gained a violent nature, as the violent methods used by the police to suppress the protest has doubled the anti-government sentiment.

Though the president has asserted repeatedly that he would not allow another election, he may not be able to rule peacefully keeping his eyes shut towards the protest for long.

A huge protest has been organised in Spain against measures imposed to curb the spread of Covid-19 outbreak. Hundreds of people have participated in the protest. They have raised their voice against the mandatory use of facemasks.

Since the three-month lockdown period introduced to curb the spread of the disease reached its end, the country has witnessing a consistent rise in the infection rate.

In the initial stage, face masks were made mandatory to customers of public transport. Later, it was extended to all.

It seems that people are not in a mood to tolerate the restrictions anymore. Spain is not the only country which has witnessed this kind of protest. Several other European countries have witnessed similar protest.

Spain is one of the worst affected country in the continent. It is not wise to accept the demand of protesters. It may lead to further increase in the number of cases in the country.

The country recently introduced a new set of restrictions. It imposed a ban on smoking in public.

It is believed that the restrictions are necessary to keep the virus load to the lowest in the country.

As many as two million EU citizens have received settled status in the European country of the United Kingdom – which recently decided to severe its historic relation with the economic union.

Those who have received the status can remain in the country as long as they want without the fear of deportation – that means the status is akin to citizenship.

No all who applied for the status have received the status. Many applications have been rejected by the UK government, leaving several people in the pit of misery.

In order to address the plight of those who have been rejected the status by the UK, the Liberal Democrats have appealed that the status should be offered to all EU citizens currently in the country.

They have warned the country against the possibility of the emergence of another Windrush-style scandal.

Leaving the tainted Belarus government in a defenceless position, human rights activists have alleged that protesters who were arrested during the protest against the government have been brutally tortured in the custody of the authority.

Thousands of protesters were detained during the protest organised to express their anger against the opaque way in which the election was conducted.

Many westerns countries have extended support to the protesters. They have come up against strong statement against the Belarus government.

Sweden has requested the European Union to impose tough sanction against Belarus.

In the recent election, President Alexander Lukashenko, who had been ruling the country since 1990s, was re-elected as the supremo of the country.

Though the re-election was a triggering point of the protest, the actual spark had occurred much earlier when the president had announced his intention to take part in the election.

Bringing happiness to the eyes of millions of people across the world, the European country of Russia has announced that they have developed an effective vaccine capable to fight the threat of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Though the exact launch date has not yet been announced by the successor of the erstwhile Soviet Union, it has announced that it has completed the stage of testing successfully, indicating that the official launch will happen in the near future itself.

The vaccine will be given to health workers and teachers in the initial stage, as per the statement released by the Russian government.

Anyway, the World Health Organisation has expressed their doubt over the authenticity of the clam made by the Russian authority. They have expressed unhappiness as Russia has violated the set of procedure prescribed by the organisation.

Mainly, the WHO prescribes a three-stage testing program. The main allegation is that Russia has rushed through the procedure.

Not many countries have responded about the claim made by Russia.

Meanwhile, the global population, who are struggling to cope with the new normal, it seems, is happy with the statement released by Russia.

The official announcement regarding the vaccine made by Russia has been made by Russian Supremo Vladimir Putin itself.

A region in Spain, Galicia, has introduced a blanket ban on smoking in public places. The ban has been launched to reduce the risk of the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The ban means here onwards restaurants and bars will have to discourage its customers from smoking insider its premises.

It is not clear whether the region will introduce any fine policy in order to strengthen its policy to ban smoking in public places.

Spain is one of the worst affected countries in the region. The country has not yet fully recovered from the clutches of the outbreak.

The ban has come at the time the country was struggling to recover from the damages inflicted by the outbreak.

For the last few days, the daily infection rate has been consistently increasing. The increase has put the system back to the fighting mode.

Though at the moment only Galicia has launched a ban on smoking in public places, in the near future several other regions in the country are expected to introduce such a policy in order to defend their regions from the threat posed by the virus.

In a bold move, the African country of Namibia, which was a colony of Germany, has refused to accept the repatriation offer made by the European economic powerhouse.

Namibia and Germany have conducted several meetings over the matter. The latest is the eighth meeting that has been organised to discuss this matter.

During the anti-colonial movement organised against the Colonial Germany, as many as tens of thousands of Namibians were killed.

While speaking to a group of media personals about the development of the meeting, a Namibian representative has expressed his country’s dissatisfaction towards the outcome of the discussion.

Notably, the details of the meeting have not been publicised. It has been reported that the disagreement has emerged in relation to the contents of the agreement.

For Namibia, it is a very sentimental issue. For Germany, it is an attempt to heal the wound.

As per the claim made by Namibia, only twenty-five per cent of the total population of the Herero community of the country survived the brutal suppression launched against the anti-colonial movement by Germany. And, the Nama population was halved likewise, according to the country.

The Belarus police have used violence against those who has assembled in streets to the country to express their disagreement against the latest election verdict – which has awarded an landslide victory to President Alexander Lukashenko.

The global community, including the European Union, has condemned the way the police have dispersed the crowd gathered in the streets.

The EU has expressed skepticism against the verdict, saying that the election has not been conducted in a free and fair manner.

Sweden has appealed the EU to impose strict sanction against Belarus.

Meanwhile, the Belarus government has dismissed all allegations raised against them. It has termed the movement against the government as a movement fueled by external elements.

Recently, the Belarus opposition leader fled to Lithuania, on the ground that she feared for the lives of her children.

The self-imposed exile of the opposition leader has also been portrayed as a justification by the government for the stand it has taken in this issue.

Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, the opposition leader of Belarus, has left the country, saying that she feared for the lives of her children.

She was recently defected by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko in the election. The President secured at least 80 per cent of the total votes registered.

Anyway, the opposition has not yet conceded the loss. They have raised their doubt in the credibility of the structure established to conduct the election.

The opposition leader is at present in Lithuania.

The country has been witnessed several protests against the President since the result of the election was announced.

The police have used violent methods to suppress the movement developed against the President – who is in office since the year 1994.

Many have criticised the human rights abuses carried out by the police in order to support the government which has secured a marginal victory whose authenticity is yet to be proved.
