The latest series of MeToo campaign has left a renowned Russian journalist, Sergey Prostakov, who is regarded as one of the most powerful anti-establishment journalists based in the European country of Russia, badly hurt.

Around a dozen women has come out strongly against the journalist, alleging that he has inappropriately touched them on a number of occasions, even in the office.

Mr. Prostakov is a well known figure. He has many followers across the country. He is popular for his stern stand against the establishment.

Once, he was the editor of MBKh Media, which was the face of the Russian opposition.

The accused journalist is very close to Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the exiled Russian oligarch who is regarded as the prime opponent of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It remains unclear whether there is any politics in the allegations levelled against the journalist who is considered as a threat by the Russian autocrat.

Anyway, the journalist has expressed his apology. But, he has declined to accept that he has done some wrongs.

The arrest of a regional leader, Sergei Furgal, who is the governor of Khabarovsk, has sparked protest in the region.

Tens of thousands of people have taken part in a march organised to register their protest against the arrest of their leader.

Khabarovsk is a region located in the eastern region of Russia. The arrested governor is very popular in this part of the country – even more popular than Russian President Vladimir Putin.

There are rumors that Mr. Putin is worried about the rising popularity of the Khabarovsk Governor in the region. Many believe that the move to arrest the governor was politically motivated.

During the march, many participants have raised provocative slogan against Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The arrested governor faces serious murder charges. He is accused of having ordered the killing of several business people nearly 15 years ago.

Notably, Mr. Furgal defeated the candidate of Mr Putin’s United Russia party in elections two years ago.

Though His party, the ultra-nationalist Liberal Democrat Party of Russia, is usually seen as loyal to the Kremlin, the growth his party has achieved is definitely irritating for the Russian President and his party.

The European country of the United Kingdom and the North American country of Canada have strongly opposed the suggestion made by the United States of America that Russia should be allowed to reenter the group as a member.

United States President recently announced his plan to postpone the G7 summit until September this year. It was when he addressed a group of media personals to discuss his plan to postpone the summit he expressed his mind about the possible expansion of the G7.

He even called the group an outdated group of countries. He indirectly termed the possible expansion undeniable.

The development has created a rift between the US and those countries which stand with the European liberals.

Recently, Mr. Trump made a telephonic conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the conversation, they discussed the possible reentry of Russia to the G7 – which was formerly G8 (until the ouster of the country from the group following its aggressive attitude).

It remains unclear whether the US will impose pressure over the group to allow the reentry of Russia into the group.

If the rift between the liberal countries increases, it may affect the strength of the liberal political platform.
