Trial in PenelopeGate to begin

Former French Prime Minister Francois Fillon and his wife, Penelope, are set to appear in a French court in the infamous PenelopeGate case, which exposes how the former PM’s wife benefitted from the public fund with the support of her husband.

The allegation against the centre-rightist leader is that he helped his wife, who was then his parliamentary secretary, draw fund from the public fund for the work she had not done.

Actually, the allegation costs Mr. Fillon his presidential post. He was the frontrunner in the previous French presidential election. He was a very popular leader in the country.

It was the allegation which resulted to his defeat to centrist politician Emanuel Macron.

If the former Prime Minister is found guilty, he will face a tough jail punishment of around ten years imprisonment.

The said trial is likely to end in mid March.

Croatian singer faces criminal charges as she presents distorted version of national anthem

A popular Croatian singer, Josipa Lisac, has been booked as she has presented a distorted version of her country’s national anthem.

The case has been registered in response to a complaint registered by a Croatian lawyer, who has found the distortion of his country’ national anthem by the singer as offensive.

The highly experienced singer, who has more than 53 years experience in the field of music, was the main performer in the latest inaugural function organised to induct the new President.

It is suspected that the case is a politically motivated one.

A singers’ organisation has strongly supported veteran singer Ms. Josipa. It has called the case the questionable intrusion into the freedom of artists.

Many have come forward to support the singer. Almost all social media platforms have been flooded with messages supporting the artist.

Many do not by the argument that the singer has intentionally disrespected the national anthem of her country with her song.

It is a classic case to prove how vulnerable the freedom of artists is in the developed continent of Europe.

It is high time to organise to make sure that the freedom of artists is not scarified at the altar of the new normal of aggressive nationalism.

Spain police bust illegal cigarette industry

The Spain police have busted an illegal cigarette factory. The police have rescued at least six workers from the factory.

Among the six workers who have been rescued, most of them are Ukrainians and Lithuanians.

As per a preliminary report, the factor is owned by around twelve British nationals. An investigation is on.

The police have not yet booked any owner in connection with the crime. They have launched a wide search operation to book the owners.

The illegal factory operated in a horse stable situated in the southern region of the country, Malaga.

The factory has the capacity to produce at least 3,500 counterfeit cigarettes an hour. It is the first illegal cigarette factory busted in the Europe.

Around 12 people were earlier arrested in connection with the case. Sadly, they did not mention anything about the trapped workers. The discovery of the trapped workers by the police was accidental.

During the raid, the police have seized nearly 153,000 packs of cigarettes, 17 tons of tobacco, 20 kg of hashish and over 144 kg of marijuana.

It is high time to launch an investigation into the matter.

German Shooting: Nine Killed

As many as nine people have been killed in a shooting incident in the German city of Hanau, which is situated in the western region of the country.

Not only has the incident taken the life of over nine persons, but also it has injured several others.

Sadly, the police have failed to arrest the attacker alive. At this moment, it remains unclear why the attacker has gone this extend.

Notably, in the suspect’s home where he has been found dead by the police, they have recovered another dead body.

The identities of the suspect and the person, who has been found dead by the police in the house of the suspect, have not yet been publicised by the police.

The unexplainable increase in the number of incidences of gun shooting worries the west, especially the US and Germany.

What it exposes is the flaws in the gun laws in the west.

As per a preliminary report, the German attacker has used his licensed gun to carry out this heinous act.

An investigation is on.

It is high time for the west to rethink whether they should revamp their gun laws or not.

Britta Nielsen, the Danish social worker, has been found guilty by a Copenhagen court in a corruption case.

The corruption case distorts the image of Denmark, which is known for its corruption free status.

Ms. Britta has been working as a social worker for last forty years. She is well known in the country as a social worker.

The news report that Ms. Britta has been convicted by a Denmark court in connection with an embezzlement case has come as a surprise.

Many have expressed their shock in the unbelievable revelation. Some have even showed unwillingness to believe the revelation.

Notably, she is the recipient of Silver Medal of Merit, one of the most prestigious awards offered by Denmark.

The prosecution was very strong in the case. It successfully shattered all arguments put forth by the prosecution to save their client.

Tension returns in Ukraine

A solider has been killed and at least four injured when the Ukrainian force has come under the attack of the rebel force which has the support of Russia.

What the attack threatens is the deal the Ukrainian government recently reached with the rebels with the blessing of Russia.

The Ukraine government has convened an urgent meeting to evaluate the situation. The government may adopt from strong measures to bring the situation under its control.

Meanwhile, the Russian backed rebels have dismissed the allegation that they have consciously carried out a provocative attack against the Ukraine government defaming the deal they earlier reached with the government.

The attack has happened in an area controlled by the rebels force.

As per the opinion of the rebel force, the Ukraine force has stepped into a minefield established by the rebel force.

The situation is at present under control.

Whether the situation will escalate or not depends on what decision the government takes in this matter.

Russia has not yet responded about the issue. Since the inception of the new President in Ukraine, Russia is in a good relation with its neighbour.

The deal the Ukraine force reached with the rebel force lately was the reflection of the European superpower’s changed attitude against Ukraine.

At this moment, it remains unclear how the present development is going to impact the European political hemisphere.

Ukraine has the support of the west especially the European Union. It also enjoys the backing of the United States.

Far-rightist gains momentum in East Germany

Far-rightist groups have emerged powerful in certain regions in East Germany, which was once the stronghold of leftism.

East Germany was formerly a leftist controlled region. Post the Second World War, it fell under the influence of the USSR, which was then the apostle of global socialism.

The emergence of far-rightist in the east is not less than a surprise. It is actually a new phenomenon.

Prior to the fall of Berlin wall – the wall which separated the leftist controlled East Germany from the liberalist controlled West Germany, it was not even a distance possibility.

Sadly, what is witnessed at this point of time is a dangerous phenomenon. Lately, far-right groups have organised several attacks in the country.

Recently, around twelve members of a far rightist organisation have been booked by the German police as their involvement in several political crimes in the name of far-right has been identified.

As per a police report, they had intention to attack asylum seekers, religious centers and politicians.

The Germany government has stepped up their ante against the far-right. It has recently launched several operations to contain the activities of far-right in the country – especially in the eastern region of the country.

Leaked video spoils Macron’s best man’s political career

A leaked video has spoiled the political career of Benjamin Griveaux, who is considered as a close ally of French President Emanuel Macron.

He was the candidate of Macron’s party for the Paris mayor election. He was one of the top three hopefuls.

Mr. Griveaux has expressed his sadness about the leakage of the video.

Interestingly, highlighting the importance of the separation of politics from personal life, many French politicians have supported the tainted politician. They have unanimously appealed against the Americanisation of the French politics.

The French politics is different from the American one. It favours the separation of politics from personal life, unlike the United States.

Anyway, the development is a major blow to Mr. Macron. The French President’s party has suffered several backlashes recently, from the reduction of its strength in the parliament to the losses it has faced in the recent elections.

Though these blows are not strong enough to disturb the continuation of Mr. Macron as the President of the country immediately, it may impact his position in the long run.

Meanwhile, there is a different side also. The ruling party, if work rightly, can utilise the emotion, generated against the Americanisation of the French politics, in its favour to gain a political mileage from the development.

Russia decline to stay quarantined

A Russian woman, who returned from China recently – which is under the clutches of coronavirus outbreak, has declined to stay quarantined as she has found it irrelevant to say that manner as she has been tested negative to the virus.

She, who stays in her flat in Russia at present, has refused to pay heed to the request made by the Russian authority to return to where she has stayed quarantined.

The woman has appeared through her social media platform to explain why she has refused to accept the request made by the Russian authority.

She has justified her stand by highlighting the fact that she has been tested negative to the virus.

Placing those who return from China quarantined for nearly fourteen days is a normal procedure adopted by most countries including Russia.

At present, several people stay quarantined in Russia as part of this policy.

What the Russian authority tries at this moment is to secure a court order to forcibly bring the woman back to where she has stayed quarantined.

Numerous people have died in China due to this disease outbreak. The outbreak has already spread to nearly 20 countries, including Russia – where at least two cases have been reported so far.

The virus poses a serious threat to human. It is unfortunate that some people still are not aware about the depth of the situation.
