Prada, the renowned luxury fashion brand, is collaborating with Axiom Space to design space suits for NASA’s 2025 Moon mission. Axiom Space announced this partnership, citing Prada’s expertise in materials and manufacturing as valuable contributions to the project. While Prada is known for its fashion prowess, its involvement in the America’s Cup sailing competition has also honed its skills with composite fabrics, making it a fitting choice for the task.

Despite their fashion credentials, Prada’s focus remains on the technical aspects of the space suits. Astronauts won’t be donning paisley or fancy patterns; instead, the primary goal is to ensure a stable thermal environment within the suits. These space suits, akin to miniature spacecraft, must provide pressure, oxygen, and temperature regulation to support astronauts during their lunar missions.

Axiom Space had previously unveiled a 55kg spacesuit designed to offer a better fit for female astronauts during the upcoming Artemis 3 mission. The collaboration between Artemis, Prada, and Axiom aims to incorporate innovative technologies and design to facilitate more extensive lunar exploration, marking a significant milestone as it will be the first crewed Moon landing since Apollo 17 in 1972 and the first time a female astronaut, Christina Koch, will set foot on the lunar surface.

Famous perfume and clothing designer Paco Rabanne passed away at age 88 in his French home.

The parent business of his brands, Puig, announced his passing and said that he had “marked generations with his bold vision of fashion and his legacy will live on.”

Rabanne’s unusual clothing creations brought him international acclaim. Rabanne’s work, which, in the words of Puig’s fashion president José Manuel Albesa, “made transgression magnetic,” was praised.

Rabanne was hailed as a “important personality in fashion” by Marc Puig, chairman and chief executive officer of Puig, for his “daunting, revolutionary, and provocative perspective, delivered through a unique aesthetic.”

In the Basque area of Spain, not far from the city of San Sebastian, Rabanne was born into a military family. In 1936, during the Spanish Civil War, Gen. Francisco Franco’s nationalist forces assassinated his father, a colonel in the Republican military.

After the Nationalist troops captured Madrid and won the war in 1939, his mother, who had previously worked as a seamstress for fashion designer Cristobal Balenciaga, relocated the family to Paris.

Rabanne was raised in the French capital before enrolling at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts to study architecture, where he also worked as a freelance illustrator.

His innovations permeated every facet of his enterprise. In the middle of the 1990s, he was one of the first scent creators to introduce a product online.
Rabanne withdrew from the fashion industry in 1999, having spent years as one of the leading pioneers in the sector. He hardly appeared in the media for the next 24 years.

The company praised him as a “visionary” and called him “among the most important fashion figures of the 20th Century” in a statement posted on Paco Rabanne’s official Instagram. It said, “His legacy will continue to serve as a source of inspiration.”

Doja Cat, a pop diva, attracted attention in Paris when she walked in Schiaparelli’s Haute Couture presentation while decked out in 30,000 crystals and complete red body paint.

It took her team five hours to finish the daring look, called Doja’s Inferno. Daniel Roseberry, the creative director of Schiaparelli, and Dame Pat McGrath, a British makeup artist, designed it.

She called the finished product “a stunning, mesmerising masterwork of glittering brilliance” and credited Doja Cat with having “sublime patience.”

Hand application of the Swarovski crystals was used. The singer wore a red silk bustier, a lavishly beaded tulip skirt, and a matching pair of red knee-high boots in addition to the body paint.

In a behind-the-scenes time-lapse film, Dame Pat’s team can be seen painting the star’s skin and scattering hundreds of crystals.

When Roseberry assumed control of Schiaparelli in 2019, he made history by becoming the first American to head a French couture house. Elsa Schiaparelli launched the fashion house in 1927.

Among the celebrities that have lately sported the brand on the red carpet are Rihanna, Kendall Jenner, and Julia Roberts.
