France Lockdown: More relaxations offered

The European country of France has come to normal almost completely after several months long lockdown.

The decision to bring in more relaxations has been announced by French President Emmanuel Macron.  

The removal of the restrictions means there will be no or only few restrictions in the area of hospitality and tourism businesses. And, there will be no or only few restrictions on family get-togethers.

The big announcement has been made while he was addressing the nation through television. This is the fourth time since the imposition of lockdown the president has address the nation through television.

Schools in France are expected to reopen on 22nd June. Meanwhile, high schools may not resume their activities on the said date.   

Many have expressed happiness in the decision to allow the country to breath freedom after these many days.

It is expected that the decision will give a serious impetus to the business sector of the country – which remains in the state of disarray at this moment. V

Statue of Italian pro-colonialist journalist daubed with red paint

The statue of a famous Italian journalist, Indro Montanelli, who was a supporter of colonialism, has been daubed with red paint.

Anti-racism protesters have claimed the responsibility of the act. They have demanded the removal of the statue from the square.

They have posted a video in a social media platform in connection with the incident – which has triggered several serious discussions and deliberations across the world.

Though he was a pro-colonialist and pro-fascist, his contribution to the fight for the freedom of speech and expression is huge.

The Italian government has criticised the action and said that his contribution to the field of journalism cannot be ignored. They have even turned down the demand that the statue should be removed from the square.

The Black Lives Matter movement – which originated in the United States in protest against the custodial death of a unarmed black man – has rapidly spread across the world.

What has been reported from Italy is the first serious case of demolition in connection with the movement – which resulted to the demolition of several statues (especially those represent those who supported colonialism) in the US and across the world.

 Anyway, many journalists have condemned the action. It remains unclear whether the action may affect the global movement against racial injustice.

France: Police throw handcuffs in protest against ban on chokehold

Police officials, who are unhappy with a recent ban on chokehold in France, have thrown handcuffs on streets in protest against the French government’s decision to ban chokehold.

A few days before, the French government imposed a ban on chokehold in response to protests organised across France in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement originated in the US.

The French police have dismissed the argument that the force has done little to eliminate discrimination.

The French government has convened a series of discussions and deliberations with the Police Unions.

Many see the protest launched by the French police as a pressure tactics. They have questioned the police force.

Experts say what the French police has done is not justifiable.

Demand for the restricting of the French police is high. The latest move by the force is seen as an attempt to derail that move.

It is unfortunate that police unions act as a lobby in a country like France which is known for its respect towards democracy.

Far-right attacker receives tough punishment of 21 years imprisonment

A Norwegian youngster, who killed his step-sister and opened fire at a mosque, has been sentenced to as many as 21 year imprisonment.

The punishment has come with a minimum term of as many as 14 years – recently, the country has hiked the minimum term for hate crimes.

It is said that the attacker was inspired by similar attacks happened in New Zealand in the recent past.

The attack is one of the gravest crimes the country has seen in its recent history.

The far-right movement is not less active this part of the world.     

In the year 2011, similarly, a right-wing extremist carried out a horrific attack in the country. Unlike this time, his minimum sentence was at least four year shorter than what has been awarded to the latest case of far-right extremism.

It is high time for the European countries to look into this matter seriously. Norway is not the only European country struggling with the issue of far-right extremism.

Many European countries like Germany, Poland and Hungary are vulnerable to this issue.

Germany has recently reported several similar cases. In some states, even the rebirth of Neo-Nazism has been reported.

The development exposes a serious threat which needs urgent intervention.

Turkey punishes US consulate employee

Turkey has punished a US consulate employee, Metin Topuz, as they have found that the employee, who is a Turkish national, has links with a terror organisation work against the interest of the Turkish government.

The person was originally arrested in the year 2017. Since then, he is under the custody of the Turkish government.

Turkey believes the said group is behind the failed group.

Meanwhile, the US government has come strongly in support of their employee. They claim that there is no credible evidence to prove that their employee has links with the terrorist organisation.

The development may affect the relation between Turkey and the United States of America – which is already not in a good relation with the European country.

Mr. Topuz was an employee of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in Istanbul. He has decades of experience as a translator.

The punishment order means the US employee will have to spend at least nine years in a prison in Turkey.  

At this moment, it remains unclear whether there is any provision to appeal against the verdict delivered by the court in Turkey.

It is unfortunate that this kind of action has been initiated against the US employee.V

Belgian prince attracts penalty for breaking lockdown measures

The fine of $11,800 has been imposed on Belgian Prince Joachim, who has been found to have violated the measures imposed to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in Spain.

The Prince actually reached Spain to take part in an internship program. He was supposed to observe a 14 day quarantine period. But, on the second day of his arrival he violated the rule by attending a public function.

He later contracted the disease.

He has apologized for the mistake he committed. He has expressed his willingness to face the legal consequences of his irresponsible action.  

He is supposed to pay the fine amount within a timeframe of 15 days. If he does, he only have to pay the half of what he has been asked to pay.

If he fails to do so, he may attract severe legal action.

The issue has attracted serious global attraction. Many have commended on this issue in certain social media platforms. In the coming days, more discussions are expected to happen over why certain high profile persons find happiness in violating the measures imposed to save the world from the clutches of the Covid-19 outbreak.V

Swedish Former PM Palme’s Death: Prosecution unties all knots

The Swedish prosecution has finally untied all knots in connection with the killing of former Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme.

The prosecution has named the killer, removing all shadows around the mysterious case happened more than two decades ago.

As per the findings of the prosecution, the killer is Stig Engstrom, who killed himself in the early 2000s.

The former PM was shot in his back at the time he was walking back to his home from a cinema hall where he had visited with his wife in Stockholm.

What makes the case mysterious is that at the time he was shot there was no security personals with him and there was a questionable heist from the part of the then government to bring an end to this case.

With the new findings, the case has been closed down by the Swedish persecution. The son of the deceased former head of the European country of Sweden has expressed his happiness in the breakthrough achieved by the persecution in the case.   V

Coal mine in Upper Silesia poses serious threat to Poland

A coal mine situated in the Upper Silesia region of the European country of Poland has contributed immensely towards the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.

In the recent past, as many as 1,151 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the country. Notably, the major portion of the figure is from the controversial Upper Silesia region.

According to a report published by an International media house, an outbreak among miners and their families at the Zofiowka colliery in the aforesaid region accounts for around two-thirds of that figure.

Poland is one of those European countries which have imposed strict lockdown measures. Since March, the country is under lockdown.

It is unfortunate that when most of the countries are recovering from the crisis this country is struggling with the rise of new cases.  

In the country, so far as many as 1,157 people have died due to the Covid-19 outbreak and over 26,561 people have been infected.

Globally, the death toll due to the Covid -19 outbreak has crossed around 4,00,000. And, the outbreak has left at least 6.9 million people infected.  V

Media Training Row: Finish FM resigns

Katri Kulmuni, the Finance Minister of Finland, has filed her resignation following revelations that she spent more than €50,000 of public money on media training.

Ms Kulmuni, who is the leader of the ruling Centre Party since September 2019, earlier promised that she would pay back the entire money to the country.

She is not the first person who has resigned from the coalition government which rules the European country of Finland. Actually, she is the second senior member of the coalition government to resign in the recent times.

Last year, she, who was just 32-year-old, was presented by Finish medias as the young rise from the Finnish political platform.  

While speaking to media personals about the resignation, the young politician has said that she was not aware about the gravity of the issue.

Anyway, speaking about the resignation, Finish Prime Minister Sanna Marin has called the decision of his colleague as bold. V

US to reduce its military presence in Germany

Giving a clear message that the US will no longer sacrifice their wealth for the sake of the wellbeing of the entire western world – particularly their allies in the continent of Europe, the US has announced its plan to reduce the strength of its military capacity in Germany and several other European countries in the continent.

As many as 9,500 American is expected be withdrawn from the country of Germany by the month of September.

Earlier, the US urged their allies in the Europe to contribute more towards the security requirements of the North American Treaty Organisation, making its point clear that it might reduce its spending on the NATO in the near future itself.

The relation between the US and their NATO partners in Europe is at present in its lowest point. Since the induction of Donald Trump as the president of the world’s most powerful country in terms of military might and economic strength, the relation has been consistently worsening.

The withdrawn troops may either be redeployed elsewhere or be asked to return back to their respective base camps in the country, as per a media report published by an International media conglomerate.  

It is yet to be seen how the decision will affect the destiny of the global economy.
