Former political leader of the Basque terrorist group Eta has been arrested in France, after 17 years on the run, Spanish government said. Josu Ternera (Jose Antonio Urrutikoetxea) got arrested in Sallanches, after a joined operation by the French-Spanish police.

Josu Ternera who is accused over several Eta killings, was once Eta’s political chief. Eta had waged a violent campaign for Basque independence for more than 40 years. The group announced its disbanding in the year 2018.

More than 800 people were killed by this group during its campaign of violence before declaring a ceasefire in 2011. Spain’s interior ministry said, “The terrorist had been living near Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, an area very popular with those who practise winter sports”. “The village lies very close to the borders between France, Switzerland and Italy” the ministry added.

The cost of International calls from the UK to another EU country were capped at around 20p/min from Wednesday. The cheaper international calls and texts are part of the EU Commission’s plan for strengthening telecoms rules, after it banned roaming charges across the region in June 2017.

Certain measured have been taken to make the 5G networks widely available by 2020. The European commission said that the standard price of making a call between two EU countries is thrice higher on average than the standard price of a domestic call, while standard text prices are twice as high.

Here are some key points u need to know regarding the price cap:

Callers from a EU country to another EU country will pay a maximum of 16p per minute (19 cents) plus VAT and 5p (6 cents) plus VAT per SMS message.

Telephone providers must use encryption systems to prevent security incidents and reduce their impact on users.

The maximum cost is capped for private personal calls only.

Business customers have been excluded from the price cap.

A Classic vintage Ferrari worth €2m (£1.7m; $2.2m) was stolen when a man used it for a test drive. Police in the German city of Dusseldorf said that the suspect had expressed interest in buying a 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO.

The suspect and the seller of the stolen car went on a test drive, during which the seller got out of the car to swap places with the man. It is reported that he man got into the driver’s seat, hit the gas pedal and sped off. The stolen car was later found in a garage.

Police said that this was a “historic vehicle” with 43,000 km on the clock and should be valued at more than €2m. The car once belonged to former Northern Ireland Formula 1 driver Eddie Irvine, says a listing for the car on the dealer’s website. This Ferrari had been raced by him between 1996 and 1999.

Mass protest raised against a church being built on a park square in Yekaterinburg in Russia. About 2,000 people have gathered in the Yekaterinburg park to show their protest.

The protesters have toppled the fence in Yekaterinburg, showing their protest. After the images of the fencing spread on social media, opponents of the construction project began gathering around the square to protest.

They knock down the fencing and made a tent to remain there overnight. Some of the activists tried to block the traffic in a nearby road. But the police intruded and stopped their attempt.

They argument they put forward was that authorities should pick a different site for the new church and not deprive residents of a favorite beachfront.

The Russian Orthodox Church says that new churches should be built to replace the other churches that were destroyed under Soviet anti-religion laws.

The church in construction at Yekaterinburg park is due to be completed in 2023 in the 300th anniversary of the founding of Yekaterinburg, Russia’s fourth-largest city.

The social media giant WhatsApp faced a surveillance attack which targeted a “select number” of users, and was orchestrated by “an advanced cyber actor”.

WhatsApp recommended its users to upgrade to the latest version of its app. It is confirmed that the hackers could install surveillance software on user’s phones and other devices, using a vulnerability on WhatsApp.

The security attack has been identified and rectified. But they said that this has targeted some of the users. A new upgrade for fixing this issue had been released on Friday.

Reports said that an Israeli security firm named NSO Group, has developed the attack. WhatsApp urged all of its 1.5 billion users to update their apps as an added precaution, on Monday.

A spokesman said, “WhatsApp encourages people to upgrade to the latest version of our app, as well as keep their mobile operating system up to date, to protect against potential targeted exploits designed to compromise information stored on mobile devices”. “We are constantly working alongside industry partners to provide the latest security enhancements to help protect our users”, he added.

The Swedish prosecutors are set to announce a decision regarding the re-opening of Julian Assange rape case. The rape allegation had been put against Wikileaks co-founder Julian Assange regarding allegations from two women Assange met in 2010. The allegations were denied by Assange.

Assange (47) had stayed in the embassy for seven years. But he was evicted last month and sentenced to 50 weeks in jail for breaching his bail conditions. As the prosecutors “didn’t see any possibilities to advance the investigation forward”, they closed the investigation in 2017.

A second sex-related allegation was also faced by Assange which was dropped in 2015 because the statute of limitations had passed. This had also been denied by him.

Assange had been dragged out of the Ecuadorean embassy last month. After that, a lawyer for one of the women involved asked for the investigation to be resumed. An official from UN visited Assange on Thursday, to check regarding his treatment in the high security prison.

The Republic of Ireland has declared a climate emergency, a decision hailed by the Swedish teenage environmental campaigner Greta Thunberg as “great news”.

A Fianna Fail amendment to the Parliament declaring a climate emergency has been accepted without a vote. The amendment called on the parliament “to examine how [the Irish government] can improve its response to the issue of biodiversity loss”. This has been accepted on Thursday.

Eamon Ryan, The Irish Green party leader who raised the amendment called the decision “historic”. “Declaring an emergency means absolutely nothing unless there is action to back it up.That means the Government having to do things they don’t want to do”, said Eamon Ryan.

A surfer got killed in a shark attack in the coast of France’s Reunion Island. The man was surfing from Saint-Leu, a small fishing town.

The terrible attack took place at about 16:30 local time.

The region of Réunion had been noticed for severe shark attacks. And hence, water activities including surfing are heavily restricted on this place.

A witness said to the rescue officials that he saw a surfer suddenly disappearing from the sea and only his surfing board was left. Reports the local government in a statement (in French). The surfer is not yet been identified.

The Rescue officials told the media that the surfer’s legs were torn by the shark in the attack and his body was later found out from the Saint-Leu port.

Media reports said that other 3 people were also surfing in the area along with him but they returned safe.

12 others, including two Russians were also found guilty alleged secret agents – tried in absentia.

The Prosecutors said the plotters had the support of Kremlin to assassinate the then-PM Milo Djukanovic and block Nato accession.

Andrija Mandic and Milan Knezevic are the opposition leaders jailed on Thursday. A Montenegrin, nine Serbs and two Russians were also included.

A heavy jail term of 12 and 15 years were given to the Russians, Eduard Shishmakov and Vladimir Popov.
