Germany to restrict the data gathering activities by Facebook
Facebook has been warned to restrain its data collecting practices in Germany. This world’s largest social media network is facing a black-mark on its market dominance that they are gathering the users data without their knowing.
Germany is strict about their privacy concerns. Last year’s Cambridge Analytica scandal showed that tens of millions of Facebook profiles were harvested without their users’ consent.
Cartel office chief Andreas Mundt said that “In future, Facebook will no longer be allowed to force its users to agree to the practically unrestricted collection and assigning of non-Facebook data to their Facebook accounts,” In its order, the Cartel Office said it would only be possible to assign data from WhatsApp or Instagram to Facebook subject to the voluntary consent of users.
