Tokyo Olympics: Coaches from Belarus being Investigated

Two Belarusian coaches are being investigated for allegedly attempting to coerce an athlete to return home from the Tokyo Olympics.

After criticising her trainers, Krystsina Tsimanouskaya claims she was transported to the airport in Tokyo against her will. After expressing concerns about her safety, the athlete was given police protection and later granted refuge by Poland. The International Olympic Committee and the World Athletics Federation have launched a “formal procedure” into the matter.

The inquiry against the two coaches, who had their Olympic accreditations revoked and were withdrawn from the Games, will be conducted by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

European Space Agency: Mercury Space Mission in Final Stretch

In the coming hours, Europe’s first mission to Mercury will arrive at its goal. It will, however, be the briefest of trips. The BepiColombo probe is travelling too quickly to enter orbit and will pass directly over the planet.

However, the tiny world’s gravity will have slowed the craft slightly, and subsequent trips in the coming years will see Bepi establish a permanent station around Mercury which won’t be happening until 2025. The closest approach for this initial flyby occurs at 23:34 GMT on Friday (00:34 BST, Saturday).

The probe’s flight path will bring it within 200 kilometres of the planet’s surface. Bepi will take images, but not with the high-resolution science cameras it is known for.

Switzerland also allows same-sex marriage

Switzerland allows same-sex couples to marry and adopt. Sixty-four percent voted in favor of a referendum seeking permission to amend the law.

Switzerland has become the 29th country in the world to legalize heavenly marriage and one of the last countries in Western Europe. Although same-sex couples have so far had civil registration permission for their partnership, this did not give a partner with foreign citizenship equal rights to marriage, including obtaining Swiss citizenship and joint adoption of children.

The law will come into effect from July 1 next year. While the Catholic Bishops’ Conference opposed the law reform, the Protestant Church supported the referendum.

EU Demands Universal Charger for Phones

According to a new rule proposed by the European Commission, manufacturers will be required to develop a universal charging solution for phones and small electronic devices (EC).

The goal is to reduce waste by encouraging people to reuse their old chargers when purchasing a new gadget. According to the plan, all smartphones sold in the EU must include USB-C chargers. Apple has stated that such a move would be detrimental to innovation. Apple’s iPhone series has an Apple-designed “Lightning” connector, making it the most popular smartphone with a unique charging port.

“We continue to be concerned that tight regulation mandating only one type of connector stifles rather than encourages innovation, harming consumers in Europe and around the world,” the company told the BBC. It went on to say that by 2030, it wants every Apple device and usage to be carbon neutral.

Dutch Boy Wins Right for Covid Jab

Judge Tromp dismissed the boy’s father’s claims that immunizations were “in the testing phase” and presented hazards to reproductive organs, claiming that they lacked scientific support. While children were less likely to become extremely ill as a result of the infection, he warned that they could have long Covid.

India, UK to Resolve CoWIN Certification Row

Food inflation hits record high in UK

Food inflation in the UK hit record highs as the crisis created by Covid and Brexit was reflected in the market.

Italian village where cats disappear; Police to investigate the mystery

A special police team has been deployed to investigate the disappearance of cats from an Italian village. Hundreds of cats have gone missing this summer from a village in the Santa Maria del Piano area near Lesignano de’ Bagni in the northern Italian province of Parma.

Luana Giusti, a veterinarian in the area, said there had been complaints of cats going missing since the end of May and that complete information on them had been kept.

In the past few weeks, locals say more than 50 cats have gone missing from homes and public places in the area. Most of the missing are domestic cats.

Authorities believe the cats were stolen, not for sale. Because none of the missing cats are valuable or of the higher species. Cats have not been found dead or injured in road accidents.

A few years ago, a man was caught stealing cats from a nearby area to be used to train hounds. But police say he has no role in the current incident. A team of Italian police, Carabinieri, Forestry Police and local police have launched an investigation into the mysterious sighting of the cats.
