The European country of Sweden, which once opted out from imposing severe restrictions, has introduced certain strict restrictions to curb the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The country has brought in certain important restrictions in the area of dining in restaurants.

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven has recently admitted that there was something to be worried about.

The country has witnessed as many as 31 deaths in the last few days. The total death toll has crossed around 5,969.

Sweden is one of the few countries which has never imposed a severe lockdown. When most of its neighbors adopted strict lockdown measures, Sweden opted not to impose strict measures.   

The recent development indicates that the Swedish government is planning to make a U-turn on its policy regarding the lockdown restriction.

The new restriction measures will bring a considerable change in the way people of the country use its public transport and non-essential shopping.

At preset at least 70 per cent of the total region of the country is under some kind of restriction.

The government has recently brought in Halland, Orebro and Jonkoping.

The continent of Europe has witnessed a sharp increase of forty per cent in the Covid-19 daily death case load compared to the daily case load the continent witnessed last week.

France, Spain, the UK, the Netherlands and Russia are the worst affected countries in this part of the world.

Some of these countries have already reintroduced certain strict measures necessary to bring down the daily death case load.

The increase has brought a severe stress to the hospital infrastructure of the continent of Europe – which is much more well equipped compared to the same elsewhere in the world.

The Covid-19 infection rate in Russia is alarmingly high. It is high time to find a solution to this crisis.

Italy is one of the first countries which have reintroduced certain tough measures to curb the spread of the dangerous virus.

Sadly, most of those countries which have reintroduced the restrictions have witnessed severe resistance from their local population.

It is clear that a section of society is tired of the restrictions, and are no way willing to tolerate another period of the restrictions.

In the Northern Cyprus presidential election, Ersin Tatar, the nationalist leader who shares close relation with Turkey, has defected his opponent, Mustafa Akinci, who is a moderate leader, who stands with the west and works for the reunification of the country.

The nationalist leader has secured not less than 52 per cent of the total votes that were casted during the election.

Mr. Akinci has conceded his defeat in the election.

The victory of the nationalist leader means the region continues to share a cordial relation with its Turkish link.

Cyrus remains unevenly divided since the 1974 coup.

During that period, the country witnessed two events: the Greece backed coup and the Turkey backed military advance.

The incident left the country divided.

At present, a third of the territory of the country, that is Northern Cyprus, is controlled by a system share close ties with Turkey and the rest is controlled by a system share close ties with Greece.

The Greece-backed system is the only one which holds global recognition.

The new development is very crucial in nature. It has derailed the effort to reunify the divided country.

The victory has completely diminished the possibility of the unification.

In the recent past, the continent of Europe has witnessed a rise in Covid-19 cases. The raise has left European countries in a difficult situation.

Some countries have already re-imposed some of the restrictions which they removed.

Recently, the Spanish government attempted to impose a partial lockdown in a heavily populated region in the country.

The attempt was overturned by the court, as they found the decision taken by the government inappropriate.

Germany has intensified its efforts to contain the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak. Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, is expected to convene a meeting with the leaders of her country’s regional governments.

Span and Italy are the most affected regions in the continent of the Europe.

In the latest wave of the disease, the countries that need to stay vigilant are the ones which suffered during the initial wave.

It implies that the aforesaid European countries need to gear up its efforts to bring the situation under control.

It is said that the European medial infrastructure, unlike the previous wave of the disease, this time is highly competent to defend the wave.

It is believed that the latest wave is not capable to make an impact as serious as that of the previous one.

The European country of Netherlands has decided to reimpose certain Covid-19 restrictions, in order to address the threat posed by the fresh rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in that part of the world.

The newly imposed restrictions mean many residents in the Netherlands will, for the first time, be forced to wear a face mask in shops.

It is believed that the latest measures will help the country to overcome a second coronavirus wave.

The Netherlands is one of the few countries in the continent of Europe which is not a fan of stricter restrictions.

At present, the daily infection average rate stands at 3,000 cases per day.

The total population of the country is around 17 million. It indicates that the status is highly problematic and depressing.

While speaking to media personals, Netherlands Health Minister Hugo de Jong said they were doing their best but the virus was doing better.

In a press conference, Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte explained that the situation in the country’s three largest cities – Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague – had become serious and required urgent action.

A battle has broken out between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Armenia and Azerbaijan are the two former Soviet Socialist Republic countries.

The dispute between these two countries emerged post the disintegration of Soviet Union.

During the 1990s, the region witnessed a severe conflict. Tens of thousands of people lost life due to the conflict.

The latest protest was also violent. As many as 23 people have lost their life due to the conflict.

The disputed region is at present under the control of Armenia – certain ethnic groups based in the country.

Azerbaijan does not recognise this. The country considers this region as an integral part of this territory.

The International community also recognises the ownership of Azerbaijan over the region.  

Martial law has been declared amid the violence in some parts of Azerbaijan, as well as in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.

The unexpected resignation of a high-ranking Vatican official, Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Becciu, has exposed the flaws in the Vatican administrative structure.

The resigned Cardinal alleged that he was told to file his resignation by Pope Francis

As per a report, the ousted Cardinal was earlier placed under suspension for misusing Church money.

The allegation against the Cardinal was that he illegally handed Church money to his brothers.

The ousted Cardinal has denounced all allegations levelled against him.

A little-known fact is that Cardinal Becciu was a close aide to the Pope.

Once the said Cardinal was an important officer in the Vatican’s Secretariat of State.

It was a corruption allegation linked to a controversial deal to invest in a luxury London building which damaged the image of this priest.

The issue placed the priest under the spotlight of a financial investigation.

It is the first time in the recent history that a senior member of the Vatican administration has been removed from the corridor of power.

Italy has cleared a referendum seeking to reduce the strength of the parliament by a third.

As many as 70 per cent of the electorate of the country has voted in favour of the referendum.

Once the new regulation comes to effect,  the strength of the parliament will be reduced to at least 400.

The present strength of the parliament is not less than 634.

The referendum has the support of the Five Star Movement, which is an important member of the political coalition which rules the country.

The new development has come shortly after the regional election which saw the decline of the strength of the ruling rightist political parties.

Italy has lost many lives owing to the present disease outbreak. It is one of the worst affected countries in the continent of Europe.

At present, it is unclear whether the present development has any serious political implication.

Anyway, the development may help to reduce the chance of the spread of the disease among the lawmakers.

The same policy is expected to be implemented in the Senate.

If this development is proved helpful, many countries in this part of the world is expected to copy that policy.
