French film ‘By the Grace of God’ has overcome all efforts aimed to prevent its release, as the judicial system of the country has been successfully convinced that the release of the film would not affect the judgment of any case pending before the system.

Why the film has been subjected to the legal tug-of-war

French cleric Bernard Preynat has approached the judicial system against the film, saying that the film could prejudice the trial of a case against him pending in the system.

Why the film is so controversial

The film discusses the story of three people who have been sexually abused by a Catholic cleric. In other words, it is the cinematic version of the chargesheet filed against Mr Preynat.

How serious is the issue of sexual abuses in the Catholic Churches

Recently, Pope Frances indirectly admitted that the issue of sexual abuse in the church cleric community was one of the serious issues faced by the community.

The Pope is set to convince a global meeting of church community members to discuss the issue in the near future.

Recently, a senior cleric was defrocked over the charges of sexual abuse.

The timing of the film is very crucial. It comes at the time the world discusses the issue of sexual abuses in the Catholic Churches, and at the time the French society discusses the rare case of Mr Preynat.

It is the blind faith of some that embolden many to commit crimes in the name of that faith. A crime is a crime. No criminals should be protected under the shield of faith.

“Do you really exist?” This question may seem funny or unfair to you. But its time to rethink about the strange facts in such a question. The technology has grown into far distances. Using vast technological areas of the AI (Artificial Intelligence), software engineer Phillip Wang created the website named ‘This Person Does Not Exist’.

The website provides us the images of humans who never existed! This website is created using Generative adversarial network (GANs), which is a class of machine learning algorithms used in unsupervised learning, implemented by a system of two neural networks contesting with each other in a zero-sum game framework.

Each time when you refresh this website, you can see the image of different ‘non-existed’ persons. The website tells us how an artificial image and an identity can easily be created in this hi-tech world. Most of the identity proofs uses our images. Also, the modern gadgets are secured with the owner’s images using AI technology. The technology is linking the real world with the AI generated images.

The GANs technology was first introduced in 2014. But, when the NVIDIA took up the technology in 2017, more realistic images were obtained. This technology can be used in the advertising, modelling, photo shoot and many other fields where computer-generated models will be growing exponentially. And when these images can be moved and transferred into 3D or 5D, movies will be filled with ‘AI- actors’ in future!

Tech giant Huawei is all set to create the world’s first 5G train station this year. It is said that the network will be installed in Shanghai Hongqiao railway station by September. This allows the passengers to to download a 2GB HD film in less than 20 seconds. It is reported that the passengers can also enjoy other 5G-backed services from seamless virtual reality gaming experiences to ordering a can of soda from a robot.

Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is one of Asia’s busiest traffic hubs, and according to China Daily, it deals with about 60 million passengers a year. It is clear that this ‘super speed’ network, which will be fitted to the existing railway Station will be of great use to the passengers. This development is also seen as a key milestone in 5G commercial deployment across the city, setting an example for 5G deployment nationwide, industry representatives said.

A Swedish activist student named Elin Ersson caused disruption on a plane that stopped the migrant being sent home. She had been fined 3,000 krona ($324; £251) for trying to stop the deportation of the Afghan migrant. Her video of the protest received international attention.

“I’m not going to sit down until this person is off the plane, because he will most likely get killed,” said Elin. The video shows how airline crew and other passengers persuade her to sit down and to stop filming. She was removed from the plane, with a 52-year-old Afghan and his escort from the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.

Elin said in the video that she disagree with Sweden’s policy of sending the rejected asylum seekers back. She got a very large social media support, although some accused her of grandstanding.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound sweet Italian sausage
  • 3/4 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup minced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
  • 2 (6.5 ounce) cans canned tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 16 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 pound mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Preparation

Cook sausage, ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until well browned in an oven. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Season with sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, 1 tablespoon salt, pepper, and 2 tablespoons parsley. Simmer, covered, for about 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook lasagna noodles in boiling water for 8 to 10 minutes. Drain noodles, and rinse with cold water. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with egg, remaining parsley, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). To assemble, spread 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish. Arrange 6 noodles lengthwise over meat sauce. Spread with one half of the ricotta cheese mixture. Top with a third of mozzarella cheese slices. Spoon 1 1/2 cups meat sauce over mozzarella, and sprinkle with 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Repeat layers, and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Cover with foil: to prevent sticking, either spray foil with cooking spray, or make sure the foil does not touch the cheese.

Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil, and bake an additional 25 minutes. Cool for 15 minutes before serving.

From the latest developments, it remains clear that the British parliamentarians are not happy with the way the world’s most popular social media platform, Facebook, addresses the sensitive issue of fake news.

A parliament committee, which has conducted an inquiry into the subject of the proliferation of fake news through the social media platforms such as Facebook, has observed that the Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, has failed to address the issue of fake news. It has found out that the social media platform has been several times used to destruct the democratic framework of the country by its rivals, primarily its external rivals.

The committee has demanded that the government should impose stricter regulation over the social media platforms such as Facebook. Anyway, the committee has not specifically prescribed how the social media platforms should be regulated.

The Facebook administration has asserted that the company would welcome all kinds of meaningful discussions and deliberations.

In the recent history, many countries have come forward against the proliferation of fake news through the social media platforms, such as Facebook.

Earlier, it was alleged that the social media platform was extensively misused by Russians to help the Republics gain a edge over the democrats during the US presidential race, in which the Republicans crushed the Democrats, paving way for the induction of Donald Trump as the President of the US –in other words, the, so called, Accidental President of the US.

‘Drink’ some Indian Spice

Indian spices are aromatic and flavorsome. While looking through the authentic Indian cuisine, Masalas (spices) are always included in the recipes. Here is an aromatic Indian Masala Chai recipe!

Ingredients

  • 6 cloves
  • 2 star anise
  • 7.5 cm cinnamon stick
  • 5 cardamom pods
  • 1 tbsp black Assam Tea
  • 400 ml whole milk
  • 3 tbsp sugar or honey for taste

Preparation

Put the spices listed above (excluding sliced ginger) in a mixer grinder. Crush and grind them with a pestle until they break into small pieces and produce a striking aromatic scent. Place the crushed spices, sliced ginger, and tea leaves in a saucepan and warm on a medium heat for 3-4 minutes. Using a wooden spoon, stir frequently to ensure the mixture does not burn.

Add 650 ml water to the pan and bring to boil on a high heat. Reduce the heat and let the tea simmer, all the while stirring with the spoon. Add the milk and sugar and continue stirring. Simmer for further 2 minutes, allowing all the ingredients to blend. Remove the pan from the heat and strain the tea into a teapot. Pour into mugs or cups from a little height to create foam on the surface. Apart from these ingredients, you can add 1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder or chocolate at the end of simmering, right before the tea is strained.

US to deliver 200 tons of aid to Venezuela border

The US military aircraft is set to deliver 200 tons of aid to Venezuela border in Colombia as it increases pressure on embattled President Nicolas Maduro to give up power, according to a State Department email sent to Congress.

The aid will be delivered to Cucuta, Colombia, where other food and medical supplies are being held. The aid comes with the request of Juan Guaido, the Venezuelan opposition leader, to solve the shortage of food and other essentials in economically troubled Venezuela.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has said the aid is part of Washington’s political maneuvering to get him out of office, and he has blocked off a bridge needed to bring the supplies into Venezuela.

Lester Toledo, coordinator for international help for Venezuela said, “We came to ask for the solidarity of the governments of the world. We appreciate the diplomatic gestures. We appreciate the letters and the recognition of President Guaidó. But we ask for help, to make the humanitarian aid a reality. That all donations can let us purchase medical supplies that we really need.”

Bank Of Valletta Has Suspended All Of Its Services After Hacking Attempt

The Bank of Valletta (Malta) has suspended all of its services in light of a hacking attempt. The bank has officially said in a brief statement that all their banking systems including ATM services and online banking had been shut down temporarily, and all BOV (Bank of Valetta) branches had closed early. The bank’s mobile app was back online on Thursday morning.

The bank added that it local and international police are investigating the attempted hack. The bank said that the client’s funds are safe. The fraudulent transactions had been traced and were “being reversed”, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat told parliament later on Wednesday. The attack was detected shortly after the start of business on Wednesday morning, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat told parliament, when it noted reconciliation problems regarding international transfers.

“Bank of Valletta apologises to its clients for any inconvenience caused and will be keeping its customers and the general public informed of developments,” the bank said in a statement reported by the Times of Malta. It added that customers’ funds “are in no way impacted or compromised” by the breach.

Aurora mass shooting – Five dead in Illinois workplace attack

Five people killed and several got injured in the Aurora mass shooting, that happened when a gunman opened fire at an industrial park in Illinois, USA, police say. The authorities confirmed that the shooter, Gary Martin(45), an employee at the company was killed in a shootout with police. Five police officers were shot and wounded. Of the five officers wounded, two were airlifted to nearby trauma centres. Police said that he was reportedly sacked prior to the attack.

Aurora Police Chief Kristen Ziman said that Martin was acting alone. The incident is said to have taken place at Henry Pratt Company, a firm that makes valves for large water pipes. Ziman said that the first two officers were shot shortly after arriving.

Officers declined to speculate on a motive for the attack, but the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper is reporting that his family say he was made redundant two weeks ago and had been “stressed out”. The names of the people killed has not yet been sent out by the authorities.
