The US will be targeting Scotch whisky for imposing tariffs on imported goods. US has raised a threat to impose tariffs on EU imports worth up to $4bn (£3.2bn). The list of goods to which the tariffs are to be imposed are extended by US.

According to USTR (US Trade Representatives), EU goods including Scotch whisky, Olives, Italian cheese and a variety of metals are feared to be added to the category of extended tariffs.

This was “in response to harm caused by EU aircraft subsidies”, said the US Trade Representatives.

Tariffs had been announce for over $11bn of EU goods on April. The current decisions are the after effects of a 15 year old disputes between EU and US at the World Trade Organization.

Scientist have found out about 56 hidden lakes’ discovered under Greenland Ice Sheet. Only 4 lakes had been discovered earlier.

These lakes have been mapped by researchers with the help of aerial imaging tools, lending a deeper understanding to how the world’s icescape may change in the face of climate change.

Reports says that Antarctica has about 470 lakes beneath its ice but this latest UK/US study proves that the northern polar region also has its share. Lake Vostok, the largest down south is 250km long.

The biggest sub-glacial lake in Greenland is only 6km long. These are the bodies of water that form beneath ice masses.

The Greenland Ice Sheet has an area approximately seven times the size of the UK.

Jade Bowling, the lead author from Lancaster University said in a statement, “This study has for the first time allowed us to start to build up a picture of where lakes form under the Greenland Ice Sheet”.

“This is important for determining their influence on the wider subglacial hydrological system and ice-flow dynamics, and improving our understanding of the ice sheet’s basal thermal state”, he added.

Europe is at its peak temperatures in these days. People across Europe including tourist are in search of ways to get rid of the extreme heat waves. The temperature continued to rise on Tuesday.

A highest temperature of 45 Degree Celsius is expected in France on Friday. France had its highest temperature record in August 2003, at 44.1 Celsius. According to meteorologists, this enormous increase in temperature is caused due to the hot air from the Sahara.

Jonny Day from European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) said, “In terms of the time of year and spatial pattern of warmth, the ongoing event in Europe is quite similar to the 2015 European heatwave, which most severely affected southern and central Europe, and which set the all-time temperature records for Germany and Switzerland”.

53 countries had been given Orange alert by National weather agency Meteo-France. This is the second highest alert. The education minister Jean-Michel Blanquer announced that the temperature will remain increasing and hence the exams are postponed from Thursday and Friday.

The authorities had also arranged some “cool places”, that includes air conditioned public places and parks, for the people to relax in this hottest climate. Water is supplied to homeless people by some Paris based charities.

AKP of Turkey has lost its control over Istanbul, after the retake of the Mayoral elections.

Ekrem Imamoglu, the candidate of the major opposition party has a leading vote of 775,000, after the counting of almost all the ballots. This is a huge increased margin on compared to the the earlier election.

After the AKP of Turkey alleged irregularities, the victory in March was declined. Ex-PM Binali Yildirim, AKP candidate has conceded. The winner has been congratulated by President Recep Tayyip.

In his Twitter, he said, “I congratulate Ekrem Imamoglu who has won the election based on preliminary results”.

To his supporters, Imamoglu said, “In this city today, you have fixed democracy. Thank you Istanbul.” “We will build democracy in this city, we will build justice. In this beautiful city, I promise, we will build the future”, he added.
