Lets make some tasty and crispy Cheddar Dill Puffs, classic French recipe.

Ingredients:

  • Water : 1 cup
  • Unsalted butter : 1/2 cup
  • Kosher salt : 1/2 teaspoon
  • All-purpose flour : 1 cup
  • Eggs : 4 to 5 large
  • Finely grated yellow Cheddar : 1 1/2 cups
  • Chopped fresh dill : 2 tablespoons

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a large heavy saucepan over medium heat, cook the water, butter, and salt. Bring to a simmer and cook until the butter melts, stirring to combine. Then add flour all at once and cook, stirring vigorously with a wooden spoon. The mixture should start to come together and pull away from the side of the pan after about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and cool slightly, about 3 minutes.

One at a time, add 4 eggs, beating well after each addition. The batter will separate at first but will become smooth as each egg is mixed in. The mixture should be glossy and just stiff enough to hold soft peaks. If batter is too stiff, beat remaining egg in a small bowl and add to batter 1 teaspoon at a time, beating and then testing batter until it reaches proper consistency. Stir in cheese and dill.

Line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper. Using a 1 to 1 1/2 inch diameter scoop, drop the batter by scoopfuls onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing the mounds about 1 inch apart. Bake until the cheddar puffs are golden brown, crisp when tapped, and are puffed up, 25 to 30 minutes. Be sure to switch the baking sheets between the oven racks and rotate them 180 degrees halfway through baking to promote even baking. Serve warm.

A Supreme Court Judge named Jaime Eduardo Escalante Diaz (51) was temporarily removed from his post pending a trial after he was accused of sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl, reported reuters. El Salvador’s Congress voting was held on Monday night.

Patricia Valdivieso, a lawmaker with the conservative Nationalist Republican Alliance (ARENA) said “An important precedent is being set to prevent this type of event from repeating, especially with regard to officials with such a high position”.

The accused Escalante Diaz has served for more than two decades on the 14-member court. He has been accused of sexually abusing a 10 year old girl on February 18, and then fleeing after he was surprised by neighbours and the girl’s mother.

During the congressional session on Monday, the judge did not speak on his own behalf. His lawyer, Ana Concepcion Urias, would only say that he did not object to the process. If the accused is convicted, he will be sentenced to prison for about eight to twelve years.

  • 1 (14 ounce) package vegetarian ground beef substitute
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar-style soy cheese

Stir the vegan mayonnaise, soy milk, olive oil, vegan cream cheese, and salt into the potatoes, and mash with a potato masher until smooth and fluffy. Set the potatoes aside.

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat, and cook and stir the onion, carrots, celery, frozen peas, and tomato until softened, about 10 minutes. Stir in the Italian seasoning, garlic, and pepper.

Reduce the heat to medium-low, and crumble the vegetarian ground beef substitute into the skillet with the vegetables. Cook and stir, breaking up the meat substitute, until the mixture is hot, about 5 minutes.

Spread the vegetarian meat substitute mixture into the bottom of the baking dish, and top with the mashed potatoes, smoothing them into an even layer. Sprinkle the potatoes with the shredded soy cheese. Bake in the preheated oven until the cheese is melted and slightly browned and the casserole is hot, about 20 minutes.

Crime News

An Airbnb host in Australia has admitted manslaughter of a guest at his home near Melbourne. Jason Colton (42) denies murder, but has pleaded guilty for killing Ramis Jonuzi, who couldn’t afford to pay for his room in an Airbnb property. The incident happened over an unpaid bill worth £112. The case was handled by Victoria state Supreme Court.

Colton admits the manslaughter of Mr Jonuzi in 2017, but denies the murder. He said that he did not intended to cause any harm to Jonuzi, but just wanted him to pass out. He added that he never wanted him to be killed or seriously injured. Mr Jonuzi had been subletting a room in Melbourne from Colton, who was also a tenant in the same home.

Mr Jonuzi was a bricklayer, who had rented the room in Brighton East since he wanted an affordable and stable place to stay while he dealt with some “personal issues”, reported ‘The Age’, an Australian daily.

The room was rented to three men named Colton, landlord Craig Levy and flatmate Ryan Smart at first, for three nights, but then asked to extend his stay for a week for A$210. But at the check-out day, he had less than A$10 in his account and was therefore unable to pay.

The Philippine police have found more than 1500 turtles, duct-taped in luggage, at Manila airport (BBC reports). The wrapped turtles were found in four pieces of luggage which were unclaimed. The turtles were packed into boxes and then placed inside boxes.

The police are assuming that the bags were abandoned by the carrier when he found that harsh penalties would be given for illegal wildlife trafficking. The punishment includes two years prison and a fine of about 200,000 pesos. The Bureau of Customs said the turtles were abandoned by a Filipino passenger who was onboard a Philippine Airlines flight from Hong Kong.

The turtles are handed over to Wildlife Traffic Monitoring Unit. The turtle meat is very costly as it is a form of traditional medicine. The seized turtles valued more than 4.5 million pesos (£60,000; $86,631).

Some Brexit-supporting lawmakers have given UK PM Theresa May three tests for the EU deal, reuters reports says. These supporting lawmakers had rejected May’s European Union exit deal in January.

Theresa May is seeking assurances on the backstop arrangement which are intended to prevent a return to hard border controls between EU member Ireland and British-ruled Northern Ireland.

Concerns over the backstop leads to reject May’s deal in January, with critics saying it could leave the country tied to EU rules indefinitely.

It was reported by Times that a group had drawn up the tests by which they would assess any changes. The group included former Brexit minister Dominic Raab and Nigel Dodds, the deputy leader of the Northern Irish party which props up May’s minority government.

Michael Tomlinson, one of the group, Conservative lawmaker said “The mechanism has got to be legally binding, so effectively treaty-level change”.

“The second part is the language. It can’t be a reinterpretation of the withdrawal agreement or a re-emphasis; it’s got to be really clear language as to where we are going … The third requirement is a clear exit route.”

Trade minister Liam Fox, for BBC said “They have made it very clear that if the effect of any change is to get the guarantees on the Irish backstop that they sought, then that would be sufficient rather than demanding that it has to be done by one mechanism or another”.
