Pope Francis has left the hospital in Rome after having had his intestinal surgery 10 days ago. The pontiff, who is 84 years old, was released at 10:30 a.m. local time (4:30 a.m. ET) from Gemelli Polytechnic hospital.

On his way home to Casa Santa Maria in Vatican City, he stopped to pray at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, Holy See spokesman Matteo Bruni said in the statement. “He expressed his gratitude for the success of his surgery and offered a prayer for all the sick, especially those he had met during his stay in the hospital,” said Bruni in the statement.

Francis had surgery for a severe narrowing of his large intestine on July 4, his first major surgery since he became pope in 2013. The Vatican said it was a planned procedure though it didn’t release any details before he was admitted to the hospital. The surgery was scheduled for early July when his audiences are usually suspended and he would normally take some time off.

The bus, caught fire in a tunnel about 50 miles (80km) north of Milan which was transporting youngsters aged between 14 and 16 to a summer camp.

Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and put out the flames. Footage released by the fire department showed smoke fill out of the tunnel and long queues of traffic. As per the reports seven children were taken to hospital as a precaution for smoke inhalation.

Attilio Fontana, the president of the Lombardy region, praised the driver’s quick thinking for pulling over and managing to remove the children from the bus before it was “devoured by flames”.

The Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte clearly stated that Hungary should not be part of the European Union because of its new law banning LGBT content in schools.

For me, Hungary has no place in the EU anymore,” Mr. Rutte told journalists just before attending an EU summit in Brussels alongside his Hungarian counterpart. “But I’m not the only one to decide this: there are 26 other (EU countries).

This has to be done step by step,” he said. 13 EU countries including Ireland, France, Germany, and Italy, declared their support for defending the rights of LGBTQ people.

John McAfee, the creator of antivirus software, was found dead in prison outside Barcelona. Aged 75 years old, was discovered dead in his prison cell hours after Spain’s National Court approved his extradition to the US over multiple tax fraud charges.

It seemed that McAfee had taken his own life. He had been in custody since October on a June 2020 US indictment in which he was charged with failing to file four years of tex returns while concealing assets.

McAfee VirusScan helped to spark a multi-billion dollar industry in the computer world, and was eventually sold to technology giant Intel for more than $7.6bn (£4.7bn).

The European Union has decided to add the United States to its safe travel list, wherein it will be now easier for Americans to take a vacation in one of the 27 member states.

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, non-essential travel from the US and from other places was being banned earlier in order to avoid further contagion. However, with the vaccinations getting on track, the 27 EU ambassadors based in Brussels that the region allows nonessential travelers from eight new countries and territories.

These are the US, Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia, Lebanon, Taiwan, Macau, and Hong Kong.

European countries have decided to ease restrictions, with the number of Covid cases on a decline. The use of Digital Covid Certificates for travelling within the European Union has also been approved by the European Parliament.

However, the World Health Organisation had warned last week that the continent was “by no means out of danger” and urged Europeans to travel responsibly during the summer holidays, Reuters reported.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, With concerns over the spread of the delta variant, on Monday, delayed the relaxation of coronavirus restrictions in England by four weeks, until July 19.

On Sunday as England registered a 1-0 victory over Croatia, Raheem Sterling scored his first tournament goal in the opening game at the Euro 2020. The Manchester City forward got on the end of a through ball from Kalvin Phillips and slipped it into the net in the 57th minute.

England have opened the continental tournament with a win in 10 attempts for the first time. England now lead the Group D points table and will square off against Scotland on Friday. Austria defeated debutants North Macedonia 3-1, in the Group C opener, at the Euro 2020. Michael Gregoritsch and Marko Arnautović came off the bench to score a goal each and help Austria win the game. It was Austria’s first win at a major soccer tournament in 31 years and its first-ever at the European Championship.

Austria now lead the Group C points table while the Dutch side is placed second. Both teams have 3 points each in their kitty.

The European Union (EU) lawmakers have endorsed a new travel certificate that allows people to move between European countries without having to quarantine or undergo extra coronavirus tests.

This is to start in time for summer this year. This certificate is aimed at saving Europe’s travel industry and prime tourist sites from another disastrous vacation season. Several European countries like Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Greece, and Poland have already begun using this system.

Currently, traveling in the EU’s 27 nations is a trail for both the tourists as well as airlines alike, wherein each nation is applying different rules and standards making travel confusing for all.

On an official visit to the south-east of France, French President Emmanuel Macron has been slapped in the face.


In a video circulating on social media platforms, Mr Macron is seen walking up to a barrier on a trip to Tain-l’Hermitage outside the city of Valence. A man in a green T-shirt slaps Mr Macron in the face before officers quickly move in. The president, meanwhile, is pulled away. According to the reports two men have been arrested following the incident.

The identity and motive of the man are not yet clear. In a statement, the local prefecture said he and another individual are being questioned by the gendarmerie.

Thomas Mueller has scored his first international score in two years as Germany crushed minnows Latvia 7-1 in their final warm-up friendly before the Euro 2020 finals.

Latvia which ranked 138th in the world, got rarely out of their half as Germany turned up for their opening game of the European Championship against world champions France in eight days’ time in Munich. The 35-year old veteran had one of the quietest nights of his career in Dusseldorf. He was largely untested until Latvia midfielder Aleksejs Saveljevs caught the German defense napping with a consolation goal 15 minutes from time.

Kai Havertz ghosted through the Latvia defense to set up the opener as left-back Robin Gosens claimed his first international goal, then 86 seconds later Gundogan crashed in the second. Germany was 3-0 up inside 27 minutes when Mueller hit the net, his 39th goal in 102 caps for Germany.
