When visiting family in an EU country over the holidays, UK citizens will be allowed to travel through France.

Following difficulty in reaching their nation of residency, France lifted its Covid prohibition. Eurotunnel, which had previously issued customer alerts, said it was “delighted” by the decision. People from the United Kingdom are still largely barred from visiting France unless they have a compelling cause to do so.

French ministers tightened travel limits for the UK earlier this month, citing fears about the spread of the Omicron variant. Since the 18th of December, British people have needed a compelling reason to visit France, with some exceptions.

An arsonist has set fire to a giant straw goat that has become an annual attraction in Gavle, Sweden. After the structure was set on fire in the early hours of Friday, a guy in his 40s was apprehended.

The goat has been attacked several times before but has managed to survive every holiday season since 2016 because of 24-hour protection. The attack on the seasonal facility, according to spokeswoman Rebecca Steiner, has left her saddened. “I cannot comprehend how a person can carry out this kind of attack on a Christmas icon known all over the world just a week before Christmas,” she told the BBC.

Since 1966, the Gavlebocken (Gavle goat) has been erected in the city’s central Castle Square, where it has become a frequent target for arsonists and vandals.

The European Union is proposing a 9-month validity limit for Covid-19 immunizations for travel into and within the bloc, as well as prioritizing vaccinated travelers.

According to a document reviewed by Bloomberg, the European Commission is proposing that member states continue to welcome all tourists who have been inoculated with EU-approved vaccines. It also asked for countries to reopen as of Jan. 10 to all people who had used World Health Organization-approved vaccines. On Thursday, EU Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders unveiled a new internal EU travel framework based on individuals’ immunization or recovery status rather than caseloads in the countries from which they are traveling.

On Thursday, a second notification will be made about the external travel rules. The proposed changes establish a new time restriction for the validity of Covid inoculations, indicating that boosters will be required after the 9-month term has passed. The EU, on the other hand, stated that it was not prepared to propose a validity period for certifications given as a result of booster shots.

People are frightened to say what they think for fear of being “canceled,” according to Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries, who also claims that left-wing activists have “hijacked” social media.

She stated she had no plans to “go out on a culture war struggle” in her first TV interview since taking the job. She chastised online activists for scaring young people “who genuinely want to engage” in serious debate. She also called the negative response to her new role “misogynistic.”

Following her selection in September, comedian Dom Joly described it as “like the result of some drunk bet,” while fellow comedian Mark Thomas claimed Dorries, who is also a successful author, had “authored more books” than he had.
