In order to encourage world leaders into action on climate change to protect the planet for future generations, the students around the world organised a climate change walkout. Thousands of students marched on the streets of Australia and New Zealand Friday, carrying placards reading “Time’s Melting Away”, “Act Now or Swim” etc.

The students planned to stage 1,000 demonstrations in more than 100 countries during a worldwide day of action. Greta Thunberg, a Swedish schoolgirl started the movement last year when she went on strike alone, is now in her 30th week of action.

Some teachers and political leaders had tried to stop or threaten students against skipping school. But, New Zealand Prime Minster Jacinda Ardern, showed his support to the student’s move. He said that it was important for the young generation to send a message.
